Kids are asleep, significant other is in bed, and you can’t sleep. I know what you’re thinking… “What’s new on Netflix?” One new release that leapt out at me was Horns. Horns is the perfect storm for horror geeks: directed by French gore-maestro Alexandre Aja, based on book by Joe Hill (son of Stephen King!!!) and starring Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, who was surprisingly effective in his first horror film, 2012’s The Woman in Black.

We all react differently to adversity and personal trauma: we drink, we lash out, we stay close to our best friends who won’t judge us, we get makeovers. Ig Perrish (Radcliffe, in a roll that will smash your cutesy memories of a certain young wizard) does all the above, except his makeover isn’t a new haircut or trip to the day spa… it’s friggin HORNS! Yep, demon-like horns growing out of his skull. Of course, if he didn’t look guilty of murder before, he certainly looks the part now.

Lions Gate
Rated R | 123 Minutes
Release Date: Oct 31, 2014 (Limited)

The title of the latest project by Alexandre Aja, Horns, would have you focus on a couple of appendages growing out of a young man’s head. As it turns out, that is the least of his problems. His physical setback is nothing compared to the mental and emotional toll he’ll take before his world (and reality) completely unravels. As circumstances change, our lead goes from being in a dark place to a literal and figurative descent into Hell.

When we come upon Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe), life for him has begun to take a very intense turn. His beloved (by everyone) and loved girlfriend and soul mate, played as an ethereal forest nymph-next-door by Juno Temple, has been brutally murdered. Ig is implicated in this and is quickly judged by the entire community as the culprit (with no help from waitress/eyewitness Heather Graham). Now town pariah, he begins to settle into this half self-imposed exiled Limbo for lowlifes when”¦things”¦change.

Daniel Radcliffe Horns movie

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe made his San Diego Comic-Con debut today at the convention center’s massive Hall H auditorium for the panel for his upcoming film, Horns, based on the Joe Hill novel. Attendees got to see the U.S. premiere of the trailer, as well as a clip from the movie (footage description here below).

Radcliffe turned 25 two days ago, so the huge crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to him. He was joined on the panel with Joe Hill and director Alexandre Aja, who Radcliffe said weaved the horror and humor elements from the book perfectly for the film.

In the movie, Radcliffe plays Ig, who is accused of raping and killing his girlfriend, Mary (played by Juno Temple). While he’s facing the hatred from his fellow townspeople, who believe he’s guilty regardless of the evidence, Ig one day wakes up with a pair of horns on his head. The horns compel anyone Ig encounters to tell the truth and act on their impulses. As the story continues, Ig struggles to find Mary’s real killer and his character begins to change as well.

Daniel Radcliffe

Almost two weeks ago, Warner Bros.’ possible long-term film plans for their DC Comics properties was leaked and included theoretical solo movies for Wonder Woman, Sandman, and Shazam; a Flash/Green Lantern team-up movie; a Man of Steel sequel; and the inevitable Justice League. These plans naturally hinge on the expected success of the company’s summer 2016 entry Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. What didn’t make the cut was the new Batman solo movie everyone knows will happen eventually, which seemed mighty odd at first until a few days ago when rumors began to spread that another cinematic reboot of the Dark Knight was being planned for 2019 and could be potentially be titled The Batman.

When The Batman does eventually get made, star Ben Affleck‘s involvement will be assured due to his multi-film contract, and another actor is already throwing his hat into the ring as a casting choice for the Caped Crusader’s famous sidekick, Robin — Daniel Radcliffe
