It’s been a strange stretch of time for the upcoming sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, currently just being called Wolverine 2.

Whispers have been constant that Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky was close to being signed as the director, which immediately screams “April Fools!” Given that it’s currently October, however, this little prank wouldn’t make much sense, but no one seemed ready to confirm the odd choice for both director and movie. Since then word has come around that a deal between Aronofsky and 20th Century Fox to direct was so close that shooting schedules were being worked out for the director and star Hugh Jackman so that no issues would arise. And speaking of Jackman, he recently spoke about the upcoming sequel, and spoke as if Aronofsky was locked and loaded.

With that said, it seems we can safely assume that this is happening. It still feels awkward, but let’s just run with where it’s going!

News has been rather slow lately, so here’s an interesting little story to help you pass your time.

Recently, the first trailer for Requiem for A Dream and The Fountain director Darren Aronofsky‘s new movie, Black Swan, was released online and has been sparking a lot of attention…as most Aronofsky films tend to do. If you’ve yet to see the trailer, be sure to check it out now (Read: Watch Now: Darren Aronofsky’s “˜Black Swan’ Is A Ballerina Movie You’ll Want To See). And now comes word that there’s a little more to his ballet movie than meets the eye.

Apparently, the director had originally planned out an idea about a wrestler and ballet dancer involved in a love affair. This was about ten years ago, and as you might have guessed, the idea branched out into two films: first The Wrestler, and now Black Swan.

Even better, the movies do still share connections that we’ll notice when watching, which should be pretty cool to see. Click over for a quote from Aronofsky himself.

Darren Aronofsky’s ‘RoboCop’ Remake Gets Killed Off

Very few were excited by the idea of the brutal 1987 sci-fi classic RoboCop getting a remake already. Despite the distaste for such a thing, knowledge that Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky would be helming the movie had us all very much intrigued by what we might see.

None of that matters anymore with word that the RoboCop remake is officially dead — another victim of MGM’s dire business situation. In an in-depth report on the financial disaster going on at MGM, the Financial Times touched on the project and how Aronofsky had already cut ties with it. Then at Comic-Con this weekend, Moviehole was able to grab someone from MGM and see where things currently stood. The answer says it all: “Gone. Kaput. Canceled. It was one of the first casualties. [Darren] has lost interest anyway, I believe. Think we’re all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there.”
