Wolverine

Twentieth Century Fox has set an official release date for their long-in-development sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was once titled The Wolverine but is now simply being called Wolverine 2 until a more official title is selected.

The studio has reserved July 23, 2013 for the return of Hugh Jackman as the beloved Marvel anti-hero, which will see him heading overseas to Japan for the Samurai storyline this time around.

Wolverine

Well, the good news for fans wanting to see Wolverine 2 (also called The Wolverine) has been few and far between since Darren Aronofsky was forced to leave the film.

That trend continues, with word that Twentieth Century Fox is pondering maybe pushing production back from fall of 2011 to spring of 2012. Despite the sequel promising to tell Wolverine’s Samurai storyline in Japan, fans haven’t seemed all that thrilled about the movie after X–Men Origins: Wolverine angered the masses, and so the delay probably wouldn’t bother anyone. Plus, the wait wouldn’t be all that much longer for those of you who do happen to be interested in seeing how they try and make it up to the fans.

Director Darren Aronofsky Shares ‘Wolverine 2’ Title; Turns Sequel Into Sneaky Reboot

The somewhat anticipated sequel to 2009’s X-Men spinoff movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is becoming more and more worth your anticipation as time moves forward. From strictly a movie fan’s perspective, Wolverine was all right as an action/superhero flick, but when you have the name Wolverine in your title, a certain level of expectation exists, and comic book fans everywhere were outraged at some of the “minor” adjustments that were made to the mythos.

Because of this, said sequel was never a very exciting prospect…not until recently. In October we found out that one of the more unlikely candidates to direct the movie, Darren Aronofsky, was in fact signing on for the job. Aronofsky has previously directed Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, and the upcoming Black Swan, so his involvement in a Marvel comic book movie was a bit strange and unexpected but exciting at the same time.

If Aronofsky’s involvement wasn’t enough to pique your interest a bit, perhaps this might. The director recently chatted with Hitfix and shared the official title for his sequel, which basically paints the movie as more of a sneaky reboot than an actual sequel.

Darren Aronofsky To Direct ‘Wolverine 2’; Hugh Jackman Talks Sequel

It’s been a strange stretch of time for the upcoming sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, currently just being called Wolverine 2.

Whispers have been constant that Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky was close to being signed as the director, which immediately screams “April Fools!” Given that it’s currently October, however, this little prank wouldn’t make much sense, but no one seemed ready to confirm the odd choice for both director and movie. Since then word has come around that a deal between Aronofsky and 20th Century Fox to direct was so close that shooting schedules were being worked out for the director and star Hugh Jackman so that no issues would arise. And speaking of Jackman, he recently spoke about the upcoming sequel, and spoke as if Aronofsky was locked and loaded.

With that said, it seems we can safely assume that this is happening. It still feels awkward, but let’s just run with where it’s going!
