Justin Lowe After The Burial R.I.P.

Extremely sad news to report out of Wisconsin where the body of troubled former After The Burial guitarist Justin Lowe was found dead on Tuesday by a hiker beneath the Arcola High Bridge near Somerset. All signs point to Lowe having committed suicide. Authorities are saying that his injuries are consistent with a fall.

Lowe had been suffering from paranoid delusions and had announced his split from After the Burial last month via a highly publicized paranoid rant on his Facebook page:

Paradise Lost Band Photo 2015

Twenty seven years into their career, Paradise Lost has come full circle. The band’s recently released 14th studio album The Plague Within, sees the legendary English unit returning to their death metal roots, much to the delight of old school fans. Few bands in metal, or any genre for that matter, have taken such a wide creative arc in their careers. Aside from a few notable missteps, these guys have conquered everything from death metal to gothic synth metal to straight rock, and have even composed some things that would not be entirely out of place on a Depeche Mode record.

Check out the the video for the first single below.

Nile Band Photo

Death metal, Egyptology, one of the fastest drummers in the world, guitars tuned lower than the average bass, and technical arrangements that will make your head spin. That combination of elements could only describe South Carolina titans Nile.

Formed in 1993, Nile released their first full-length album in 1998 and has set about bringing their death metal onslaught to fans worldwide ever since. The band is widely renown for fighting to keep ticket prices to the absolute minimum and hanging out to greet concert-goers after shows. Their dedication to the fans along with seven albums’ worth of top shelf death metal has garnered them a rabid following.

Nile will release their long-awaited eighth album What Should Not Be Unearthed on August 28, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records. In the meantime, check out the crushing “Permitting the Noble Dead to Descend to the Underworld” from the band’s 2009 offering Those Whom The Gods Detest. Also, be sure to check out Nile drummer George Kollias’ recently released solo album Invictus, which is extremely badass.

Massive Metal Monday: Allegaeon “Threshold of Perception”

Allegaeon Band Photo

Allegaeon‘s music is so heavy and technically intricate that it needs a bit of comic relief. That’s why the technical melodeath band from Fort Collins, Colorado are as well known for their wacky and lighthearted videos as they are for their epically crushing compositions. There is something oddly satisfying about a band whose songs deal with subjects as weighty as astrophysics, trigonometry, extraterrestrial life, and stem cell research making goofy videos. In the clip for their recent single “1.618” (a song about the so-called “golden ratio”), they mocked the ridiculous modern metal scene by spinning the “wheel of subgenres” and then morphed hilariously into the corresponding fashions.

In the video for today’s Massive Metal Monday track “Threshold of Perception,” they visit the beach for a little fun, sun and death metal. You ain’t seen nothing until you’ve seen a blast beat on children’s sand pails or a death metal singer brushing his teeth while growling gutturals! So check it out, crank it up, and enjoy. And, if you dig what you’re hearing, pick up a copy of Allegaeon’s brilliant new album Elements of the Infinite on Metal Blade Records.

The Haunted Band Photo

The Haunted is a long-running Swedish heavy metal supergroup. The band has had a revolving lineup throughout its career with the only consistent member being rhythm guitarist Patrik Jensen. Several members of The Haunted throughout the years have also been members of Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates. Currently the rhythm section of drummer Adrian Erlandsson and bassist Jonas Björler split their time between both bands.

Today’s Massive Metal Monday track is titled “Eye of The Storm” and comes from The Haunted’s eighth studio album, 2014’s Exit Wounds. Check out the official video for the song here below.
