Not everyone can handle being legendary. We see this in the everyday lives of our celebrities. Some go about their private lives quietly, and others tend to revel in the spotlight at all times. That kind of constant attention can have a severe affect on a person, changing them in ways they never thought possible. In Mark Waid‘s Irredeemable, the worlds greatest superhero, a man of unflappable courage and strength, undergoes such a change after reaching his breaking point.

For those who have not yet had the chance to dive into Waid’s fantastic series, consider this: What would you do if the most powerful being on Earth was hunting you down? Where would you run to when he can hear your heart’s specific beat all around the globe? The surviving members of Paradigm, a team of the world’s greatest superheroes, are faced with this challenge when the man who built their team suddenly becomes the world’s most egregious villain.

What would the body count be if Superman lost his mind? Mark Waid and Diego Barreto‘s Irredeemable takes us into a disturbing universe where the world’s most powerful superhero has gone rogue and the body count climbs into the millions.

Produced by BOOM! Studios and nominated for an Eisner Award, Irredeemable features the super team The Paradigm, led by the all-powerful Plutonian. As the Plutonian suddenly goes rogue and begins a mass slaughter, the rest of the Paradigm struggle to reel him in as civilization slowly collapses. In Irredeemable #13, we catch up with Bette Noir, one of the few remaining free members of the Paradigm as she catches up with her father in a refugee camp. There, she confesses to him that she had the opportunity to stop the Plutonian, but didn’t because it meant admitting infidelity to her husband. Even at the end of her tearful confession, her father refuses to forgive her for her incredibly selfish act.

Previously in Irredeemable“¦

The Plutonian, Earth’s most powerful and beloved hero, has gone rogue. In the past few weeks, tens of millions of innocents have died at his hands as he has rampaged across the planet. His former teammates, the Paradigm, have been searching far and wide for some way to stop him. For now their best defense is Survivor, one of their own, who has absorbed his dead twin’s powers and has forced the Plutonian into retreat — and, unwittingly, into the hands of Modeus, Plutonian’s former arch-enemy, who now secretly inhabits the body of Plutonian’s young sidekick.
