The Dillinger Escape Plan is a groundbreaking mathcore (a mixture of hardcore punk and progressive metal) band from New Jersey. They are famous for their chaotic song arrangements which feature perpetually shifting time signatures and poly-rhythms. Their incendiary live shows are also the stuff of legend. The band’s performances are often violent and have led to members sustaining various injuries over the years, which may explain in part the high turnover of musicians in the group.

Regardless, DEP have established themselves as one of the most important bands at the vanguard of 21st century metal. In fact Loudwire recently placed DEP’s 1999 debut album Calculating Infinity at number 18 on their “Top 25 Extreme Metal Albums of All Time” list saying the following:
