Deadpool 2 Teaser: Ryan Reynolds As Bob Ross

Yes, Disney has bought 21st Century Fox. So most of their entertainment assets will belong to the mouse. That means that X-Men and Fantastic Four can now play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s sandbox. Whether or not they will remains to be seen.

But for those who were worried that Disney would tone down some of the more adult comic movies such as Deadpool, you can relax. Disney CEO Bob Iger says he intends to keep Deadpool as an R-rated movie. More on what he had to say about that and the future of rated-R Marvel movies below.

Deadpool

We’ve been hearing whispers that the mega-deal between The Walt Disney Company and 21st Century Fox could happen as soon as Thursday, and this morning it became official: Disney has purchased Fox for around $52.4 billion. Disney is also inheriting around $13.7 billion of debt, making the total cost of the deal about $66 billion. In the deal Disney is acquiring all entertainment properties and more, while the Fox Broadcasting news and sports assets will be spun off to shareholders under a new company.

On the entertainment side of things, this now means Disney owns and controls all of Fox’s brands and titles including the X-Men and Deadpool franchises, the Avatar movies, the original Star Wars trilogy, The Simpsons and other Fox shows as well as all of the FX Network series, and even Fox’s stake in Hulu, which now gives Disney controlling interest in the streaming service (making their own planned streaming service even more interesting).

You can find more details below.

X-Men and Avengers crossover

It has been a few weeks since we first heard about the possibility of The Walt Disney Company acquiring 20th Century Fox. Though details were slim, if Disney were to buy Fox it would mean that the studio would acquire their entertainment division, which includes film properties, TV properties, Nat Geo, and more.

At first, it appeared that there was a fallout between the two when the then-rumored deal leaked. However, talks started again, and much of the deal remained the same with Fox continuing to retain their sports and news media outlets. Now the deal that looked like it would take months to complete could be done as soon as next week. More on the story below.

Avengers and X-Men

When there was word that Disney was entertaining the idea of buying out the 20th Century Fox film and TV properties, fans got excited at the idea that X-Men and Fantastic Four could finally come into the MCU fold. Avatar land made more sense, too. And the idea that Disney could possibly release more mature material under the Fox banner became a possibility. But as soon as that news broke, the deal was off.

Now it appears that the deal may not be as dead as we first thought. There are reports that X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner is becoming one of the key players to make this deal happen. More on the story below.
