Last week on Damien, I fell victim to one of the classic misdirections; the dream state episode. But it was really convincing! I mean we’re dealing with a show about the Antichrist and those manipulating him, so to me anything is fair game. Damien (Bradley James) tried committing suicide, but was saved at the last minute. His dream, fueled by drugs, alcohol, and carbon dioxide, saw Lyons (Scott Wilson) and Ann Rutledge (Barbara Hershey) in cahoots to manipulate him. They even pulled a trick involving his long lost “mother”. His friends Amani (Omid Abtahi) and Simone (Megalyn Echikunwoke) are also conspiring against him. Now awake, he’s weary of everyone and determined to find the truth about himself.

Last week on Damien, after a mindtrip around the VA hospital last week culminated with him assisting a patient with suicide, Damien (Bradley James) went to his family’s estate, locked himself in the garage, turned the car on, and went to sleep. Of course, he didn’t succeed in killing himself; a couple of canine companions showed up to drag his carcass from the vehicle. Ann Rutledge (Barbara Hershey) tells the doctors it was an accident brought on by substance abuse… but Damien is tired of the copious amount of death that surrounds him.

Damien (Bradley James) is in a strange place. One one hand he is bonafide hero; a decorated war photographer who spends his spare time pulling kids off train tracks. Conversely, he’s also the Antichrist… you know that pesky elephant in the room. While Damien appears unwilling to follow his destiny, those around him seem destined to force it on to him. Above all, is Ann Rutledge (Barbara Hershey) who runs a global enterprise and is a lawyer for the Thorn family estate. She successfully threw off Detective James Shay (David Meunier) with stories of Damien being a personal mess prone to fits of anger and craziness. Although Shay and his family were attacked by mysterious forces at their home, so obviously, they are still viewed as a threat to Damien’s existence.

Last week on Damien, Damien (Bradley James) seemed to accept his fate, or at least part of it. Despite his misgivings about Ann Rutledge (Barbara Hershey), a mysterious one percenter with a shrine to him, he willingly confided in her. Also tugging at Damien’s strings was John Lyon (Scott Wilson). Lyon simultaneously warned him about Rutledge, but was working with her to expedite the process of turning Damien from a war photographer into his rightful role as the Antichrist. Damien can’t seem to grasp the whole evil concept though, as he’s spent his life documenting the worst travesties, and even last week saved a young boy from an oncoming train. The bizarre “accidents” that follow Damien around peaked the interest of Detective James Shay (David Meunier), who in turn has gained certain unwanted canine followers…
