Gulliver's Travels

Hot on the heels of the first poster being released, the first trailer for Gulliver’s Travels has now found its way to our computers.

The movie is directed by Rob Letterman and written by Joe Stillman and Nicholas Stoller. It stars Jack Black as a man struggling through a life of mediocrity who kind of trips and falls into a writing job that takes him to the Bermuda Triangle. This trip does not go so well, and when he wakes up, he’s prisoner to a civilization of people much, much, much smaller than he is.

The first poster for the upcoming latest adaptation of Jonathan Swift‘s classic tale, Gulliver’s Travels, has been released by 20th Century Fox. The poster shows off one of the more familiar situations anyone who has seen or read any version of the story should be familiar with: a giant Gulliver, captured and tied down by many time people.

The movie will tell the story of Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black), an adventure-loving writer who while on an assignment to the dreaded Bermuda Triangle, washes up on the shores of Lilliput “” a whole new world where the people are equal in their evolution, but just so happen to be incredibly small as well.

Careful not to step on anyone, and head on over to the other side to check out the first poster for Gulliver’s Travels!

Geek Peek: First Look At Jack Black In ‘Gulliver’s Travels’

A bunch of behind-the-scenes images from the adaptation of Jonathan Swift‘s classic Gulliver’s Travels have surfaced. All of the images are of the movie’s star, Jack Black, standing in the middle of what looks like some kind of town square and yelling something. It appears that some oddly-dressed soldiers are present, leading us to believe that this is after Gulliver has arrived in the mysterious world of little people. No one appears to be small or wearing motion-capture suits or anything, so I’m really not sure which method they’re using to make everyone tiny. Maybe this is just how folks dress wherever Gulliver is BEFORE heading to tiny people world.

Jack Black is playing Lemuel Gulliver, an adventure-loving writer who while on an assignment to the dreaded Bermuda Triangle, washes up on the shores of Lilliput — a whole new world where the people are equal in their evolution, but just so happen to be incredibly small as well.

The movie also stars Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) as a native Lilliput princess, and Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) as Horatio. It is captained by Rob Letterman, who also directed Shark Tale and Monsters vs. Aliens, and the script is written by Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller as well as Joe Stillman.

Gulliver

Jason Segal (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) are both in negotiations with 20th Century Fox for roles in the upcoming adaptation of Jonathan Swift‘s tale, Gulliver’s Travels.

The movie will feature Jack Black as Lemuel Gulliver, an adventure-loving writer who while on an assignment to the dreaded Bermuda Triangle, washes up on the shores of Lilliput — a whole new world where the people are equal in their evolution, but just so happen to be incredibly small.

As for who the two will play if negotiations are successful, the big trades seem to be confused (as they were with Iron Man 2‘s Sam Rockwell/Mickey Rourke castings) — both have Emily Blunt playing a native princess and Jason Segal playing a man named Horatio, but THR has Blunt as Horatio’s love interest and Variety has Blunt as Gulliver’s love interest with Horatio playing Gulliver’s best buddy. While it would indeed be interesting, I’m assuming a G.I. Joe-sized princess and a massive Jack Black would make some weird-ass lookin’ babies, so I’m going to dance with the former here. I’m sure some basic research, or a question to those familiar with the classic story could answer who’s loving who here, but me being not so familiar find it more enjoyable to point out the flaws of those who think themselves too good to source the smaller guys when they break a legit story.

Jack Black is set to star as the title character in a contemporary version of Gulliver’s Travels for Twentieth Century Fox.

The original book by Jonathan Swift consists of 4 parts and follows Lemuel Gulliver, the first part of which (and most known/used) sees Gulliver end up in Lilliput, where to his surprise, he finds an island populated by people who are only 6 inches tall.

Shark Tale director Rob Letterman (who also helmed the upcoming animated DreamWorks feature, Monsters vs. Aliens with Conrad Vernon) has signed on to handle the directorial duties for this big-screen reimagining of Gulliver’s Travels with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller and Joe Stillman (Shrek) writing the script.
