Directed by Tarsem Singh
Starring Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Luke Evans, Mickey Rourke, John Hurt
Relativity Media
Originally Released: November 11, 2011

Coupled with delightful visuals and unreal effects, Immortals is a fantasy, with a reasonable cast and a good dash of battle gore. While it takes the lead from the likes of 300, Troy, and Clash Of The Titans; it also unfortunately butchers the original mythology upon which it is ostensibly based, taking the phrase "loosely based" to new levels of bullshittery.

Immortals follows the legend of Theseus (Henry Cavill), the founder-hero from Greek mythology, responsible for the formation and consolidation of Athens – and eventually Greece as a power in the ancient world. Centuries after the war of the Immortals, evil King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) seeks the Epirus Bow, the only weapon that could possibly free the evil Titans, antagonists of the Gods.

A Hero’s Journey, Immortals depicts Theseus’ rise to prominence, a reluctant mortal who would stand by the sides of Gods – and eventually fight in their names. In a blood-soaked battle that would determine the conceptualization of "souls" in Greek culture, the stakes are high – and may spell doom not only for the mortals, but for Immortal Gods as well.

Athena

On November 11, 2011, Tarsem Singh’s Greek mythology epic, Immortals, hits theaters, but if you want to be an Immortal for Halloween, we have some DIY instructions for you to follow to make your own costume.

In the film, Isabel Lucas plays the beautiful goddess Athena — that’s her in the film in the photo above (and in the poster below). See here below for instructions on how to make your own Athena costume. And don’t worry if you’re not the greatest do-it-yourselfer — there’s a handy link to purchase a golden dress, so all you’ll have to do is create the accessories!

Those of you who do end up making this costume, tweet me at @eveofdoom with a pic of yourself in the costume (or it can be of just the costume itself) OR post a pic to the Geeks of Doom Facebook page and I’ll send you a prize.

Immortals

The latest trailer for Immortals, the upcoming 3D epic adventure from director Tarsem Singh (The Fall), has just been released for viewing on MSN Movies, Zune, and Xbox Live. You can check it out below this article.

The film follows a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) who is chosen by the Greek gods to battle the power-mad warrior king Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) when he declares war on humanity. Hyperion has assembled a massive army and is on a quest to find the Epirus Bow, a weapon of astounding power created by the gods that can unleash the Titans from their imprisonment in Mount Tartaros. If Hyperion takes possession of the Bow he can destroy the gods and dominate the world. Because the gods are forbidden by ancient law to intervene, only Theseus can defeat Hyperion and save his people from death and enslavement.

Week of Geek: SDCC 2011 Coverage - San Diego Comic Con

SDCC 2011: Immortals panel: Henry CavillCinephiles have followed visionary director Tarsem Singh‘s stunning visual spectacles for years in films like The Cell and The Fall. As a fan of his films, my only regret has been that as an indie director his work has been somewhat overlooked by mainstream audiences. With Immortals being produced by the producers of 300, Tarsem finally has the opportunity to helm a true tentpole epic.

At the Immortals panel today at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 included Tarsem, 300 producers Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari, and cast members Freida Pinto as the Oracle, Stephen Dorff as Stavros, Luke Evans as Zeus, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, and (future Superman) Henry Cavill as Theseus.

Tarsem revealed that the actual film is quite darker in tone than recent ads have revealed.

Footage shown was an amazing visual feast for the eyes. Imagine a cross between 300, Spartacus: Blood & Sand, or Troy, but completely in 3D, and on an exponentially more epic scale. Diamond arrows, golden armor, and thousands of warriors shed blood across the screen in terrific stylized slow motion.

The first trailer for Tarsem Singh‘s new Greek mythology epic, Immortals, showed us that the director was definitely bringing his stunning visuals master–touch to the game once again while setting up the story. Now a second trailer has been released to expand on that with even more to look at.

We don’t know if the movie is going to be bad or good, but one thing is for sure: you’d have a hard time finding trailers with more beautiful shots than the first two we’ve seen for this one.

You can follow the link above to see the first trailer for Immortals, and you can continue on below now to see the new second trailer, as well as read a lengthy synopsis for the film.
