Forever Ioan Gruffudd

Forever
Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot”
Directed by Brad Anderson
Written by Matthew Miller
Starring Ioan Gruffudd, Alana De La Garza, Joel David Moore, Donnie Keshawarz, Barbara Eve Harris, Judd Hirsch
ABC
Air Date: September 22, 2014

Forever is pretty neat.

I watched the pilot for this new ABC series this weekend, and to be honest, I didn’t expect to enjoy it. It was compelling enough to keep my attention. And to get this part out of the way, I absolutely recommend that you check it out if you were already at all interested in it.

Ioan Gruffudd plays Dr. Henry Morgan, a New York City medical examiner who, 200 years prior to the current timeline of the show, discovered that each time he shuffles off this mortal coil, he returns to life, resurfacing resurrected from a nearby body of water.

Again, I liked the pilot. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t point out some epic trope-ridden laziness on the part of the show’s writers.

Fox Announces Plans To Reboot Their ‘Fantastic Four’ Franchise

Fantastic4

Fantastic Four is a 2005 movie that starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis and was followed by the 2007 sequel 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer — both of which made fairly large amounts of money, but weren’t loved by critics. Many seemed to think the properties were a little too cheesy, and rumors began to swirl about a possible reboot only a few years after the first movies were produced. This rumor is now a reality, as just on the heels of the massive Disney acquisition of Marvel Studios, Fox has officially announced their plans to give the Fantastic Four franchise a makeover.

Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, and I Am Legend writer Akiva Goldsman has been brought in to oversee the reboot. This is an interesting move — as you can see, Goldsman’s track record with superheroes and summer blockbusters is a little rocky, but on the other end of the spectrum, he has also co-written Oscar winners and nominees like A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man. No specifics on how much his work as an “overseer” might maneuver the final product.

Week of Geek: Disney's 101 Dalmatians

By Stephanie G

102 Dalmatians
(2000)
Directed by Kevin Lima
Starring Glenn Close, Ioan Gruffudd, Tim McInnerny, Eric Idle, Alice Evans
Walt Disney Pictures Home Entertainment
Release Date: September 16, 2008

Many sequels fall under the pressure of their predecessors. Disney made a great attempt to try and recreate the magic of the first 101 Dalmatians live-action film by re-casting Glenn Close, whose portrayal of the villain Cruella DeVil brought the first movie great success. Unfortunately, this film proved that only her performance was worth watching.

102 Dalmatians begins with the puppy-loving Ella, who has been rehabilitated from her evil puppy-hating ways and gets out of jail on parole. In order to acclimate back into society and to serve as a classic bit of comedic irony, she decides to save a dog pound that is threatened by eviction. Unfortunately her rehabilitation trance doesn’t last for long, with the sound of Big Ben, she snaps out of sweet kind Ella and turns back into the fur-obsessed Cruella DeVil.

I must say this movie definitely tops the wardrobe department from the last film. With the theme centered around fashion, it gave the costume designers a great opportunity to push the limit on what they could create using only black and white. Cruella’s wardrobe, which changed practically every five minutes, did keep me entertained and eager to see what she would be wearing next.
