Jon Favreau‘s The Lion King is already being hailed as one of the most anticipated films of 2019. We saw a small snippet of the live-action take of the animated opening sequence at D23, which pretty much tells us that this will be a visually stunning film. But that was just the beginning.

One of the biggest rumors going around earlier on in the casting process was that Beyoncé Knowles-Carter was going to play Nala. Well, you can put that rumor to rest, as the actress and singer has been confirmed to play her. Along with confirming Beyoncé Disney has also confirmed the rest of the full cast, which can be found below.

Like a lot of Walt Disney animated films, The Lion King has stood the test of time in its own way. The celebrated piece is a powerful film that has beautiful animation, resonating themes, catchy songs, and plenty of charm to boot. It’s no wonder that it is among our favorite films. Now, The Lion King gets, yet another, re-release in “The Circle Of Life” edition as part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection. Like many of these re-releases, this one is chock full of bonus extras that will have fans fall in love once more and introduce this lovely film to a new generation who may have never seen it before. Another has been added to the cast of Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King, with Luke Cage star Alfre Woodard signing on.

Woodard will be voicing the mother of Simba and mate of Mufasa, Sarabi. The character was voiced in the original animated movie by the late Madge Sinclair.

Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor is in talks to join the cast of Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King.

If a deal is a reached, Ejiofor would take on the role of Scar, the film’s villain. Scar is the not-so-popular brother of the king, Mufasa, and the uncle to Mufasa’s son and future king, Simba.

As far as we know, Disney’s upcoming live-action iteration of The Lion King is in the very early stages of development. So early that they are still adding cast members as we speak. However, with the film expected to hit theaters just before the next D23 Expo, director Jon Favreau was kind enough to stop by this year’s D23 to provide a small sample of his vision for the new Lion King.
