Week of Geek: Star Trek banner

The cameras of The Shatner Project were rolling again last month, capturing the official first meeting between the original James T. Kirk, William Shatner, and Chris Pine, who plays Kirk in the upcoming JJ Abrams prequel/reboot Star Trek.

The historic meeting took place on April 25, 2009 at Priceline’s Charity Horse Show Dinner, where many of the cast and crew from the upcoming film came out to support this charity that Shatner is very involved with. Shatner was the host of the dinner. The momentous meeting is quick, but definitely worth watching. Check it out here below.

Also, Pine and his co-star Zachary Quinto did an Artist On Artist feature on MySpace where the two actors interviewed each other about working with JJ Abrams and the cast of the new Star Trek. The 5-minute video includes clips from the upcoming film, along with some behind-the-scenes footage.

This might come as a surprise, but William Shatner claims that he’s never seen the new Star Trek trailer. So Access Hollywood took the opportunity to show it to Shatner and capture the original James T. Kirk’s reaction to it.

There’s a split-screen view of his first reactions to the trailer, as well as behind-the-scenes interview footage captured by Shatner’s Shatner Vision cameras.

Shatner also talks about a book he co-wrote in 2007, Star Trek: The Academy — Collision Course, which, similar to the upcoming Trek film, focuses separately on the younger, pre-Federation days of Kirk and Spock and how they came to be at Starfleet Academy.

Video: ‘Star Trek’ Super Bowl TV Spot With New Footage!

A new TV spot for Paramount’s upcoming Star Trek, which will air during tonight’s Super Bowl XLIII broadcast, is now online — watch it here below!

I know what you’re thinking, it’s a TV spot so it probably has the same old footage from the trailer. I thought that too, til I checked out the 31-second clip and discovered a bunch of new scenes!

Late last year, director JJ Abrams held preview screenings of several scenes from the film, which serves as a prequel to the original series and movies. One of the scenes shown was of James T. Kirk as a young man (Chris Pine) before he joins Starfleet in a bar room brawl, and we get a hint of that in this TV spot. There’s a young Leonard McCoy (Karl Urban) introducing himself to Kirk and a glimpse of the cadets outside the Academy in San Francisco. Plus, we get to see the interaction between Captain Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) and James Kirk, which we only heard as a voiceover in the trailer.

There’s a few more tiny shots of new footage, so definitely check it out!

TrekYesterday, we wrote about some news images of the USS Kelvin that were discovered at upcoming Star Trek Intel’s cross-promotional Star Trek site at boldlygo.intel.com/newfrontiers.

The site has been updated to include more images of and details about of the Federation starship, as well as details and photos of some of the crew members, including first officer George Kirk, James T. Kirk’s father.

To navigate to the images and stats of the crew members, go to “Explore The Final Frontier” then click on “Join the Enterprise Construction Crew” then chose “USS Kelvin.” Here you’ll see a 3D model of the starship. Click the up arrow until you see the top view of the ship and three blue circles appear.

‘Star Trek’ Trailer and Footage Analysis

A few days ago, we posted about the new full-length trailer for Star Trek, the upcoming prequel from JJ Abrams. This trailer has become my new obsession and right after its release, I watched it 20 times, took 50 screenshots from the high-res version, and wrote nearly about 1,000 words worth of observations and queries.

While a lot of speculation has been given to the footage in this 2-plus minute trailer, we have to remember that there’s a lot more movie left to see and chances are what we’ve seen is far from the big picture. Don’t forget, we know that in the Academy, Cadet James T. Kirk took the Kobayashi Maru test three times, which means that anything we’re being shown now could be a part of that simulation test.

I watched the trailer many more times since its release, so I think I’m ready to finally talk about it at length. Also, several sites had the opportunity to watch four scenes from the film, so I was able to glean some facts about the trailer based on the footage they wrote about. Images throughout are screenshots I took from the high-res version of the trailer.
