Fantastic Four

[Update 1/27/2014: The trailer has been released – watch it HERE.]

The teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four, Fox’s reboot of the Marvel property, will reportedly be attached to UK screenings of comic book movie Kingsman: The Secret Service starting this weekend, and hopefully officially online soon after.

Simon Kinberg, one of the film’s screenwriters, had said last year that the upcoming Josh Trank-directed film would be “a more realistic” and “a more gritty, grounded telling” of the FF story, as opposed to Fox’s first time around with the Marvel superhero team in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).

Now comes reports that the teaser will reveal a “fast and gritty” flick that greatly differs from its predecessors.

Doctor Doom

Josh Trank‘s Fantastic Four could have changes that would be welcomed by most fans. Though the changes aren’t radical, they would give the film a more contemporary feel. But Toby Kebbell, who will play the film’s villain Doctor Doom, recently dropped a few details about the character he will play during a recent interview for the DVD release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

According to him, Doctor Doom won’t be the character we have been seeing in the comics, films, or the cartoons; instead, he will be a programmer who does a lot of angry blogging on the side. Hit the jump for more.

Comic book movies are never 100% adaptations of their respective source material. Not that there is anything wrong with that. In fact this is a common occurrence with many of these adaptations. Now with director Josh Trank‘s reboot of Fantastic Four in production, we will get to see just how different the material in the film is from its source.

With Comic-Con a little over a week away, fans will surely be adjusting many of their schedules to see if they can wait it out to see a panel for their favorite films, and one film that should be making a surprise appearance is Fantastic Four. Though they are not on the schedule, rumor has it that the stars of the film, Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jaime Bell, and Michael B. Jordan, are all expected to make a surprise appearance, much like how the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past dropped by unexpectedly.

Though the rumored appearance would probably entail a friendly wave to Hall H, Mara is dropping a few hints about Simon Kinberg‘s script. According to her, the film is a reinvention of the four superheroes that will not use any previous comic book storylines. Hit the jump to read all the details.

Fantastic Four Reboot Header

Just two years ago a young filmmaker named Josh Trank merged the genres of superhero adventure and found footage – the cinematic equivalent of mixing peanut butter and motor oil that had been used to kill cockroaches – and came away with the marvelous Chronicle. That movie’s unexpected success resulted in Trank becoming attached to several high-profile comic book blockbusters in development, including a Venom feature for Sony Pictures. But the assignment that ultimately claimed his allegiance was the Fantastic Four reboot that has been gestating at 20th Century most likely since the box office grosses for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Screen came trickling in seven years ago.

Only in recent weeks has the project began to gain steam (which is odd given that it has a locked-in released for summer 2015) with the crucial roles being cast and rumors about the rejiggered origin story leaking to the media. One particular question on the minds of longtime fans of Marvel’s First Family is whether the atmosphere of Trank’s FF epic will stay true to the lighthearted fare of the original comics or will the classic characters be presented in a slightly shaded approach common to today’s tentpole franchise heroics.

The reboot’s screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg gave the answer recently at this year’s Wondercon. Continue below to see what he had to say.
