Let Me InLet Me In
Directed by Matt Reeves
Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz, Richard Jenkins, Elias Koteas
Rated R
Release date: October 1, 2010

Let Me In is an American remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In. Owen, portrayed by Kodi Smit-McPhee, lives with his mom in an apartment complex. Owen’s parents are divorced and he is constantly bullied at school. Things begin to change when Owen meets and befriends Abby (Chloe Moretz, a girl who moves into his apartment complex. Abby behaves a little strangely, but their friendship continues to grow. Eventually, Owen learns that Abby is a vampire and has to feed on human blood to survive.

Kodi Smit-McPhee is very believable as the pitifully frail Owen. It is hard not to feel sympathy with him when he is verbally and physically abused by a gang of bullies led by Kenny. Kenny is portrayed by Dylan Minnette as an evil, callous child. Chloe Moretz follows up her excellent portrayal of Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass with another strong performance as the eternal vampire girl Abby. Smit-McPhee and Moretz play their roles perfectly and their puppy-love relationship seems very plausible.

SDCC 2010: Let Me In panel: Chloe Moretz

Nothing makes true movie fans more angry than hearing about a brilliant foreign film getting an American remake, sometimes before the original is even released itself. Examples include The Ring (Ringu), The Grudge (Ju-On), Quarantine ([REC]), and the latest title, Let Me In, which is a remake of Swedish hit Let the Right One In.

The thing about Let Me In, however, is that the more people see and hear of it, the more it begins to look like it might become a legit new film. This possibility was elevated to a new level this past weekend during Comic-Con 2010, where the movie and its cast and crew made a lot of people believers.

The panel opens with a new trailer from the movie. The first trailer was decent but this new trailer really shows off how dark this movie will be, and some of the chemistry that the film’s two young stars share with one another.

Next up comes the introduction of director Matt Reeves, stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Richard Jenkins, and Chloe Moretz.

‘Lost’ & ‘Star Trek’ Composer Michael Giacchino To Bring Music To ‘Let Me In’

One of the best musical composers working today, Michael Giacchino, has announced that he will be handling the score for Matt Reeves‘ horror remake, Let Me In. Giacchino made the announcement on his official website.

The movie is a remake of popular Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In, and stars Chloe Moretz as a centuries old vampire who forms a close bond with a young boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Richard Jenkins.

The original is so popular that a remake has sounded like a terrible idea from the start. As time goes on, however, Let Me In has looked better and better right up to the release of the first teaser trailer, which you can see at the bottom of this post if you missed it.
