Dark Horse Comics and Exclusive Media Group’s Hammer Films have just announced a partnership in which they will create a series of co-branded original graphic novels and comic books. Their first collaboration is going to be inspired by Hammer Films’ upcoming suspense thriller Let Me In.

Let Me In is a horrid tale about a young boy named Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who is viciously bullied by his classmates and neglected by his divorcing parents. Owen spends most of his days plotting revenge on his middle school tormentors and his evenings spying on the other inhabitants of his apartment complex. When Abby (played by Chloe Moretz aka HIT-GIRL from Kick-Ass), a new neighbor, moves in next to Owen he finds himself with a strange new friend. But the young girl has a terrible secret that will forever change Owen’s life.

The new American remake of the film is based on my favorite vampire film of 2008, the widely acclaimed Tomas Alfredson-directed Swedish film Lat den ratte komma in (Let the Right One In), produced by Hammer Films, and written and directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield).

Let the Right One In is a Swedish horror movie about vampires that took film festivals by storm and received countless amounts of gushing praise. As with most foreign horror movies that become incredibly popular (The Ring, The Grudge, Quarantine), the movie was immediately pursued for U.S. remake treatment. What we already knew about the remake is that it will be called Let Me In, and it will be directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield); what wasn’t yet known is who would star…until now. It’s being reported that the first three cast members that have been hired are Richard Jenkins, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz.

The movie tells the story of two children who bond through some very difficult times in the cold winters of Sweden. One is a 12-year-old boy, and the other is a 200-year-old vampire child. The original film is directed by Tomas Alfredson and based on the book of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It focuses on the story of these two kids’ relationship and many real-world issues like drugs and prostitution while keeping the unique vampire elements in-tact as well.

In the past year, a small Swedish film called Let the Right One In has caused waves of high praise among movie fans on the festival circuit. Raves about its originality, darkness, humor, and all-around high level of quality have helped gain the film all kinds of attention.

However, news is making its way around the web that the U.S. DVD and Blu-ray versions of the movie have entirely new subtitles written into them. This may sound innocent enough, but if you love foreign movies and know how much better they can be than the movies we’re used to, then you also know how stupid this is.

I personally have not seen the movie, but as other sites cover this and I’m able to see what’s going on, it’s something that needs to be seen by as many people as possible, so I’m just doing my part. It’s appalling that anyone would take another person’s art and just slaughter it like this. Being someone who was very much excited to see this movie because of all the praise that it has received, I now find myself wondering how I’ll get to see the actual movie and not this… other thing.
