Director Joseph Kosinski has never been one to employ traditional soundtracks on his films. His 2010 debut Tron: Legacy was scored by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk and their efforts were received so well that even those who disliked the movie couldn’t help but love the soundtrack, which sold over half a million copies after almost a year in release.

For the soundtrack to his latest film, the futuristic sci-adventure Oblivion starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, Kosinski has retained the services of another French electronica outfit gaining in popularity across the globe, the quintet M83. Their original score for Oblivion is now available for sale on MP3 for only $5.

Listen to two selections from the album – “StarWaves” and the title track “Oblivion” featuring Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfør – here below.

Oblivion Poster Header Image

Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion is no ordinary small sci-fi film. In fact it is so big that it could fit an IMAX screen. While Oblivion has been making its marketing campaign run over at SXSW and WonderCon, the film will be making a big debut over at the LA Times’ Hero Complex Film Festival. The film will be presented in its IMAX format and Kosinski and film star Tom Cruise will be there to attend a very exclusive Q&A after the event. Hit the jump for more info.

The interactive Q&A will be moderated by Times film writer Rebecca Keegan at New York City’s AMC Loews 34th Street 14 on Monday, April 15, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

OBLIVION

Despite what Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) may know about what happened to the Earth 60 years ago, nothing could have prepared him for the truth – not even a long-lost lover (Olga Kurylenko) who literally fell from the sky. The new trailer for Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion has arrived and it gives us a better picture of what Harper is fighting for and who he is up against. Morgan Freeman plays a freedom fighter who has all the answers that Harper is looking for. But who can Harper believe?

Check out the trailer here below to find out.

The trailer does create a splendid looking post-apocalyptic Earth, and the sci-fi machinery looks to be very polished and very real. This gives me a lot of hope that Kosinski’s second directorial effort will be much better than his first, especially since Kosinski, Karl Gajdusek, and Michael Arndt have adapted the screenplay from a comic that Kosinski created.

Oblivion Poster Header

Universal Pictures has unveiled the first poster for Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion. In the film, Tom Cruise plays a drone repairman stationed on a future Earth which has since transformed into a desolate planet. When a pod carrying a mysterious woman crash lands near one of his work sites, the encounter causes Cruise’s character to question everything he knows about the world around him.

Check out the poster for the film here below.

Looking at the poster for Oblivion we can see that Earth is clearly not what it once was. We don’t know how Earth got to this point, but it looks like a lot of things have changed as there are towering waterfalls that share the skies with skyscrapers that now act as relics.
