I’ve only ever watched the first season of the show Dollhouse produced by Joss Whedon and starring frequent collaborator (and overall kickass chick) Eliza Dushku, who starts as Echo, one of the “dolls” in a facility that programs applicants to take on a different identity for each assignment that they’re called to do. I thought the show had a decent concept, especially as some of the “dolls” became more suspicious of the facility and programmers, especially Echo. With that in mind, I thought the graphic novel might have an interesting storyline, especially since some graphic novel adaptations of television shows, like Dark Horse’s Buffy comics, offer some more intriguing takes on things the show couldn’t necessarily execute.

The brand new Superboy series continues with this second issue. It picks up right where issue one left off with Superboy and his buddy Simon and Krypto are captured by Poison Ivy in which she offers a team up with Superboy to help her get her powers back. They have to fight their way through an outbreak of trees and vines and flowers that have taken over Smallville. They must find the source of what’s going on in a farmhouse in which a farmer is hooked up to what looks like a bomb about to go off. Can Superboy resist the temptation of Ivy or will he fall under her spell?

Friday at New York Comic-Con 2010 brought another edition of Marvel‘s X-Men panel, and attendees got a few sneak peeks of some upcoming projects.

Probably the biggest announcement at the panel was the one with the least details. Towards the end of the panel, a new series called Age of X was announced with a promo picture with some obvious and not so obvious silhouettes of characters. Panel host and Marvel Sales Manager Arune Singh described it as “the end of mutants as we know them” and made it pretty clear that this series would at least be a spiritual successor (if not an actual sequel) to the fan-favorite “Age of Apocalypse” storyline from the 1990s. Singh said that more details including who will be writing the series, who will be handling the art, and who the mystery characters are will be revealed on Marvel’s webpage in a few weeks. The series will be out in January 2011.
