Jimmy Fallon The Tonight Show SNL 40

We pretty much kept you up to date on Sunday night into Monday morning with our SNL 40 coverage. NBC broadcast the 3 1/2-hour Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special, which featured some of today’s biggest celebrities, past show hosts, past and present cast members, and musical guests. Amongst the returning cast members was Jimmy Fallon, current host of NBC’s The Tonight Show. Fallon and pal Justin Timberlake did a cold open rap to kick off the show, and Fallon was highlighted in several flashback reels.

On Monday night’s episode of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, which, like SNL, is recorded from the studios at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, the host reminisced about the amazing night. Along with red carpet arrivals, there was also an after-party that featured some all-star jams, including one Fallon did with Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney, as well as a mind-blowing appearance by Prince.

Check out the 9-minute video here below of Fallon talking about the After Party, as well as some snippets from the various jam sessions, which included Fallon, Swift, and McCartney doing The Beatles “I Saw Her Standing There” and Swift’s recent hit “Shake It Off.” There’s also Instagram video of Bill Murray playing tambourine; Prince doing “Let’s Go Crazy,” and the B-52’s doing “Love Shack.”

$5 MP3 Album Deal: Prince ‘Purple Rain’

Prince

Purple Rain, by Prince, is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5.00.

Hot on the heels of his slow but highly confident climb in the music industry with his uncensored, R&B, Sly Stone & Jimi Hendrix-style stripped down and bounced up style with tracks like the party anthem “1999,” Purple Rain put Prince into a uniquely dazzling class altogether. Coming out like a treble clef shooting out of a .44 caliber Magnum, “Let’s Go Crazy” starts the groove frenzy right away and keeps it hot throughout. By the time the intellectually funky track “When Doves Cry” and the string arranged, volcanic turbulence of the title song are reached, the listener has been thrust into an almost transcending of their own consciousness thanks to its guitar fervor (supplied by Prince) and the almost contemporary (at the time) vibe straight out of the most erotic moments of the notorious film Caligula. The record is unabashedly 1980s, but it’s much more than that, as it remains a classic piece of recorded music that set a template which Prince would follow again and again on subsequent releases, but never reaching the apex set by Purple Rain.
