Game Review: Do Not Fall

Do Not Fall logoDo Not Fall
PSN Download
Rating: E
Developer: XPEC Entertainment
Publisher: Playstation Network
Release Date: July 23, 2013

Fun for the whole family. That’s what I saw when I first downloaded Do Not Fall last week. It’s rated E for Everyone so I went in expecting a pretty mild time. Not the hair-pulling, controller-throwing fit that I now associate with the game. No, seriously. It makes Candy Crush seem like a relaxing walk on the beach.

You start the game in a very basic, cartoon-ish screen that makes you think about kittens, flowers and unicorns. It seems like this will be a great way to unwind after getting worked up on whichever Call Of Duty you happen to be playing this week. Everything is easy to understand, controls are quite simple at the beginning…basically just running and jumping. The goal on this platformer is to collect ingredients to make drinks (you are trapped in a vending machine, more on that later), all the while avoiding a misstep and falling off the walkways. A little twist here: the floors disappear after you walk on them. Well, more of a slow fade away, though they do reappear a few seconds later. This is all well and good on the first level. Easy peasy.

Top 5 Activities Playstation Network Members Can Do Now That PSN Is Down

It has been six days since Sony was forced to shut down of the Playstation Network, but for PSN members, it probably feels like a lifetime. The popular online gaming service was hit hard by hackers last week, forcing the video game giant to shut down their service. Since then, news has been less than grand.

From talks that the server won’t be fully online for another two to nine months to the hackers possibly obtaining the personal information of over 77 million users, it doesn’t look like PSN members will be fragging any of their friends anytime soon. But before PSN members start to panic and request being put on suicide watch, your friends at Geeks of Doom have compiled a list of five activities to do while the network undergoes a much needed renovation.

ESRB: M fo Mature

Developer: Deadline Games
Platform: PSN Network: March 5th 2009 (Part One), Xbox Live & PC: March 4th 2009 (Part One)

If you haven’t heard anything on the forthcoming Watchmen graphic novel adaptation by Dawn of the Dead & 300 helmer Zack Snyder, then you must’ve had your head buried in the sand for the past 5 months or so.

Arguably one of the most prestigious graphic novels of all time, Watchmen is the comic that has been hailed as “unfilmable” by creator Alan Moore (who still apparently stands by this, and prefers to distance himself from any movie based on his work). However, Zack Snyder’s anal-retentive attention to detail has made it a reality.

All this being said, I’m not here to lend my critique on the forthcoming movie (due for release on March 6th) or the graphic novel. I’m here to talk about the video game adaptation for the Xbox, PS3 & PC; Watchmen: The End Is Nigh (Not the browser-based flash game Minutemen).

Announced back in November, the game will be a download-only episodic prequel to the graphic novel, with events unfolding in such a way that it melds into the comic’s story until its conclusion. As far as delivery systems for the game’s download, Warner Brothers Interactive will use the usual Xbox Live and PS Network for the console versions, and the PC download has thankfully been confirmed as using Valve’s Steam platform.
