
Sony cancelling the release of The Interview has sparked an outrage on social media. While safety is a priority, many feel that the move let the hackers know they have won. It will also set a bad precedent for the future. While the studio laments on whether or not to release the film via VOD or elsewhere, other studios are now forced to reconsider or terminate their North Korea-set films completely.
One such film is an upcoming thriller Pyongyang from Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski and starring Steve Carell. According to Deadline, the current circumstances make it difficult for a film like this to move forward, therefore New Regency has decided that it doesn’t make any sense to put the film into production.
