Spoiler Talk: The Crazies

2010-02-27_the_crazies_movie_posterJust got out of an early morning showing of The Crazies here on the West Coast and I’m ready to talk some spoilers!

A reinvention loosely based on the George Romero classic of the same name, The Crazies is about the inhabitants of a small Iowa town suddenly plagued by insanity and then death after a mysterious toxin contaminates their water supply. The Breck Eisner film stars Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Danielle Panabaker, and Joe Anderson.

I had a lot of fun with The Crazies. It was tense, had good suspense, had great pacing, was shot well and most certainly looked better than the $20 million budget would lead you to believe. The film definitely deserves its place among the ranks of well made horror/suspense films.

If you have seen The Crazies, then, it’s time for SPOILER TALK! Below are some of my spoiler-filled thoughts on the film, and as always, remember to leave your thoughts about the movie here below in the Comments section.

Crazies coverNow begins the media onslaught for The Crazies franchise and no matter what format your heart desires, it seems you will be satiated. Originally a 1973 film by George Romero, The Crazies now has a new theatrical remake from Overture Films, a comic book series, Facebook “tower defense” game, motion comic, an interactive game, and an iPhone app.

The Top Cow printed comic book consists of four chapters: Hopman Bog, Dwyer Creek, Black Pond, and Ogden Marsh (first two issues were released yesterday with the second two following on February 24, 2010). The comic series traces an outbreak that takes over the minds and bodies of the citizens in Ogden Marsh, Iowa, and each chapter focuses on a different aspect of this epidemic. Jeff Katz of American Original produced the comic book on behalf of Overture Films and Participant Media. The writers for the miniseries are Ivan Brandon, Josh Fialkov, Brian Reed, and Marc Andreyko. You can download the comic book covers at www.thecrazies-movie.com/comicbooks.

The motion comic is being handled by Starz Digital Media, in association with Double Barrel Motion Labs, and will be a four-part animated companion to the film based on the comic miniseries. Episode 1 of the motion comic series, “Hopman Bog,” will be available for purchase on the iTunes and PlayStation® Network platforms on February 23, 2010.

Come And Meet ‘The Crazies’ With New Trailers, Images & Synopsis!

The Crazies (2010) movie poster

If you haven’t heard of the new movie, The Crazies, then this is your chance to overload on imagery, trailers, and a fat and juicy synopsis to fill your brain with the ingredients necessary to decide if this movie is indeed for you!

The movie is actually a remake of a 1973 George A. Romero film of the same name. It takes place in your normal, everyday small town where everyone knows each other and gets along fine before some sort of mysterious toxin is released into the water supply. For those who are affected by the toxin, they slowly lose their grasp on sanity at first, and develop a violent nature. Before long, they go completely insane and want nothing but to kill everything that moves.

It’s no surprise that the movie has come from the brain of George Romero…it certainly has the “zombies with a twist” vibe to it much like The Signal. It also has a kind of The Happening feel to it, but certainly looks like it could be a hell of a lot better than that was!

Click on over to the other side to read the official synopsis, watch a few trailers, and check out a few images as well!

surrogates blu-raySurrogates
Blu-ray Edition
Directed by Jonathan Mostow
Starring Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell, James Cromwell, Ving Rhames, Rosamund Pike
Disney Pictures Home Entertainment
Release date: January 26, 2010

Stick a movie in front of me that features Bruce Willis as a member of Law Enforcement and so help me I’ll watch it. From Die Hard to, um, Live Free Or Die Hard — via The Last Boy Scout and Sin City, among many others — Willis has defined the straight-talking no-nonsense no-shaving vest-wearing law-ignoring cop. Surrogates is the latest Willis movie to hit DVD/Blu-ray — a sci-fi action thriller based on the graphic novel of the same name — and this time he’s a robocop.

In the not-too-distant future most of the world’s population rarely venture outside their own homes. Instead they spend their lives as operators, connected to their stem chairs seeing life through robot surrogates. Thanks to a Supreme Court ruling more than 10 years ago, over 98% of the population use surrogates in daily life; they go to work, they do the shopping. Thanks to this statistic, crime in the U.S. is down 99% and all other bad things like racism and sexism have seen a huge decline. Surrogates were initially developed to help disabled people, used only in a medical context. Then costs came down and eventually these robots became affordable to regular people and private use of surrogates became popular.

Surrogates are you, but much better in every way: flawless skin, perfect hair, they cannot be hurt, and should they be destroyed, you can just buy a new one. This is a world populated by only beautiful people. This is life”¦ only better.
