The Crow

That noise you just heard were the mutual releasing of breath by the legions of goth kids and Hot Topic employees who will now likely be able to see a new version of their beloved franchise, The Crow.

Deadline is reporting that the pair of Relativity and The Weinstein Company have come to a settlement regarding the rights to The Crow after TWC claimed that they owned all distribution rights to the franchise. The settlement leaves the duo of companies working together on the franchise reboot, allowing for the project to now move forward once again.

Hack/Slash

One comic book-to-movie adaptation that many have been excited about is Hack/Slash, based on the comic of the same name created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli. Unfortunately there’s been some delays and complications in getting the project moving, and so those who are excited have had to wait impatiently for movement.

Now it appears things are picking up for the Relativity Media title, though whether you will still be excited or not is worthy of discussion.

It’s being reported that Marcus Nispel, the German director known for brutally violent remakes like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, and this past summer’s Conan the Barbarian, has been brought in to deliver Hack/Slash to the masses. He replaces Fredrick Bond, who was previously attached to direct.

The Crow

Relativity Media’s long-in-development reboot of The Crow, based on James O’Barr‘s 1989 independent comic book miniseries, has seen its fair share of talent attach and detach from this troubled project since it was first announced nearly three years ago.

First Stephen Norrington, the director of Blade and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, was given the directing reigns with screenwriter/musician Nick Cave (The Proposition) on scripting duty, but both left the project when the development stalled.

The Crow

As faithful fans of Alex Proyas’s 1994 cult classic, The Crow, learned about the planned remake with Bradley Cooper attached to star, the response was crystal clear: bitter, heated rage.

Now those very same fans can rejoice, as Cooper has decided to detach himself from the project due to scheduling conflicts…and probably a little reputation control. The actor has a movie called Silver Linings Playbook with David O. Russell, and also a movie called Paradise Lost, which shoots around the same time Relativity Media plans on filming The Crow. Of course, all good things do come to an end, and celebrations could be a bit premature.

In the race of Snow White projects, Relativity Media seems intent on winning at all levels. The studio has the earliest release date (March 16, 2012), and now they’ve released the first official image from their movie…which doesn’t even officially have a title yet.

In the movie, Lily Collins (daughter of the legendary Phil Collins and star of The Blind Side and Abduction) appears as Snow, while Julia Roberts will be playing her stepmother and the Evil Queen, Game of Thrones star Sean Bean is King and father to Snow, and The Social Network star Armie Hammer is playing a prince and love interest. Tarsem Singh (The Cell, Immortals) is directing the movie.

The first official image from the movie shows Collins as Snow White, and you can see the pic by heading on over to the other side now.
