| Geek God Joss Whedon & ‘Super Size Me’ Director Morgan Spurlock Want YOU For Comic Con Documentary
E! Online has received some interesting news. Apparently Joss Whedon — creator of popular titles like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, and Dollhouse — is getting ready to tag team with documentary film maker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me, Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?) to make a documentary about the super geeks that attend Comic Con every year. Reports are that Whedon and Spurlock will find a bunch of different people who take their geekdom very seriously. They want those of you who not only own, but often dress up in your favorite movie or TV show character’s costumes — and none of that Halloween costume crap, the real-deal outfits — to follow around for a few months. Click on over to see a video of the folks I imagine these gentlemen are seeking!

| UPDATED! Geeks In Space: NASA Astronauts Wake Up To ‘Firefly’ Theme Song |
 |

UPDATE: Many thanks to Geeks of Doom reader Wilco who provided us with a link to the actual video of this shuttle crew’s wake-up call, complete with a nice shout-out to Firefly. You can check it out below! To be perfectly honest, I just don’t know how much more insanely cool stuff needs to happen for the seemingly slow folks at 20th Century Fox or some other network to bring back Joss Whedon and his Firefly. In a message via their Twitter account yesterday at 4:18 PM EST, National Aeronautics and Space Administration shared with the world that their shuttle space crew were awoken to the addictive melodies of “The Ballad of Serenity,” the theme song and opening titles tune for every episode of Firefly. @NASA Shuttle crew awoke @4:14pET to theme song from “Firefly.” The Ballad of Serenity, performed by Sonny Rhodes, was played for Bob Behnken.
Because SciFi Wire (where I first saw this) included it, you can also click on over to watch the opening titles for Firefly and hear the song, just in case you haven’t heard it before or even if you’re just itching to hear it again.

| The Amazing Firefly-Class Ship Called Serenity Replica You Can Never Have |
 |

Sideshow Collectibles is renowned for their ability to make scale model replicas of popular entertainment creations and characters. These collectibles are of the highest of quality and make any collection induce jealousy in those who gaze upon it. Their newest creation is no different; in fact, it’s one of their most impressive pieces to date. The company has created a 23 1/2″ high, 12″ wide 1:180 scale model of the title character of Joss Whedon‘s beloved sci-fi western show, Firefly: the ship itself, Serenity. It’s nearly impossible to sum up the amount of detail and work that was put into this item, which is perfectly called Serenity — The Big Damn Replica, so you’ll have to refer to the list below for full details. The team that worked on it put in three whole years doing research and taking every possible measure and precaution to ensure its utmost flawlessness. The unfortunate aspect to this pile of awesome, is that most of us will never ever own one. You see, there will only be one thousand of them ever produced, and each one will cost you $2,699.99 with a $540 deposit required — OR, if you desperately need one, you can drop only $431 a month using their payment program. Head over to the other side to read all of the insane details that are included in this replica AND to see many more cool images of it.

| Must Watch: The Return Of ‘Firefly’ Captain Malcolm Reynolds…Sorta |
 |

Depressing as it may be, Fox and whoever else that has had the opportunity have still not realized the must-happen decision that needs to be made to bring Firefly back from the dead. Proving that even the actors involved in the show are just as faithful to that “you can’t take the sky from me” mentality as us crazy Browncoat fans, Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) himself has been bringing plenty of Serenity flare to his current gig, Castle. It began with random and subtle references to Firefly as well as other Joss Whedon work like Buffy, but in the latest episode of Castle, Fillion took to a whole new level. You see, this week’s episode was the Halloween episode, and what better costume for Richard Castle — the mystery novelist-turned NYPD aide — than Captain Mal? The episode is hilarious right off the bat with Fillion getting his costume on and jumping into a room like a superhero where a girl who I assume is his daughter says “Didn’t you wear that like five years ago? Don’t you think you should move on?”, to which he replies “I like it.” You can click on over to the other side right now to watch the episode of Castle entitled “Vampire Weekend” in its entirety.

| Once Again, The Choices That Might Ignite The Glorious Return Of ‘Firefly’ |
 |

A lot of people are just flat sick of hearing about fanboy-favorite Firefly and its seemingly impossible resurrection. Even I, someone who very much loves and misses the show, sometimes hates reading rumors about the show or how it may one day return to us. None-the-less, every once in a while, you just need to buckle down and revisit the topic and where it may currently stand in this completely unfair and tragic hell that Firefly has been prisoner to for many years now. TV By The Numbers has a great piece from The Nick C Blog on some of the options that exist for just such a thing to happen, as well as whether Joss Whedon‘s Dollhouse getting a second season helps Firefly out. The most intriguing part of this article, is that the man who wrote it has apparently had plenty of contact with Fox and its people. The main question posed to them is as it always has been: is there any way that Fox would actually do what we hope and pray–yet highly-doubt would ever happen and bring back Firefly? Surprisingly, the answer seems to be “yes,” if it were under the proper circumstances. As they stress in this story, all of the stars of the show are quite busy with their own shows right now, and all of those shows seem to be fairly popular to boot, so the chances of the right circumstances to renew the series coming along are highly-unlikely. So where does this leave us? Well, right back where we’ve been: movies.
