Deadpool #32
Writer: Daniel Way
Artist: Sheldon Vella
Marvel Comics
Price: $2.99
Release Date: January 26, 2011

I am not, overall, a Deadpool fan. I’ve only read a handful of issues of the main title and Merc With A Mouth, while also picking up a few Deadpool Team Up issues here and there. The comic book market has been saturated with Wade Wilson for years, and only one thing convinced me to pick up this book: the art. But I was pleasantly surprised when I actually made my way through the book.

This issue’s main story is about a mercenary, Macho Gomez, trying to kill Deadpool because he stole a kill that Macho was hired for. Turns out things didn’t happen as we are led to believe, and Deadpool has to make a decision about what he should do with his life. Will he stay a hero, or turn back to his mercenary ways?

Kill Audio, an invincible man lost in his world of Sight and Sound finally finds purpose and destiny as protector of all music. But what does this destiny mean? What must he do to keep all genres and sub genres in line? All of the things come to light in Kill Audio #6.

What more can be said about the fantastic world that Sheldon Vella brings to life with his art? I have read nothing but praise for his outlandish groundbreaking style that he first developed in the Zuda series Supertron. While incorporating an amount of crass imagery and an over-the-top style, Mr. Sheldon’s work is nothing less than stunning. That being said, it doesn’t take away from Sanchez and Echert’s writing in the least. In fact, Sheldon’s art brings their story to a living and breathing entity that immerses you into their world.

But don’t let the art fool you, the writing is stellar, as well. Over the past 5 issues, the story definitely has its highs and lows, but Sanchez and Echert really do a fantastic job of wrapping up the series in a fitting way that in no way feels unnatural to the rest of the story.

Meet Kill Audio (KA), an angry dwarf who can’t die. He’s on a mission, a mission to find his purpose in life. Along the way he will meet up with a coke-addicted chicken, a skeleton in a beaver suit, and a talking pillow, and we must not forget Fix, a creature whose job it is to kill KA.

KA is trying to reach the Watchtower so that he can talk to Clockwork, the creator of all sight and sound. He will have to pass through the gates of Hell itself, navigate his way through the middle of a marital spat, and survive a confrontation with a drunken dog toy in order to reach his destination.

When KA finally reaches the Watchtower he learns from Clockwork that his purpose is to maintain the balance between Life and Creativity in the land of Sight and Sound and that when KA was taken from the Void, Music was thrown into absolute chaos.
