DreamWorks has released some brand new images from Michael Bay‘s uber-sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Both Empire and USA Today have the exclusive images which show everything from stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox running away from something unseen and surely horrifying, LaBeouf hanging on for dear life while cars fly through the air, and a pretty large looking explosion.

Not much is known of the plot so far, but apparently the sequel will see the Autobots joining up with the U.S. military to fight the Decepticons, who have invaded Earth after Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) discovers a very deep secret about the origins of the Transformers.

If Babe Ruth, arguably the best baseball player of all time, was alive today, would he plunge head-first into the steroid/human growth hormone fiasco that has led to the decay of the game? He was a great player in an era where these enhancements, not to mention the fancy equipment that players of today now swear by, were non-existent”¦so what need would he have for them? This is what has happened to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the latest installment in what is arguably the greatest series of action films of all time.

The grey-haired duo of director Steven Spielberg and writer/producer George Lucas find themselves traveling the route so many baseball players (and directors, ahem, Michael Bay) find themselves on today: injecting superhuman strength into their bodies to produce outrageous results. Nowadays it’s so easy to hit a homerun that it’s not even special anymore. The expression “˜chicks dig the long-ball’ is long gone. In cinema, it isn’t special anymore to see extravagant action sequences. Most of them look as though they’ve been filmed in front of a giant green screen, never giving the viewer a sense of reality. Just because you can do practically anything with this technique doesn’t mean it’s a treat to watch. The simple, stylistic sequences that Spielberg did so effortlessly in the previous films are gone, replaced by huge, freakish-looking stunts that look nothing less than fake.

Boom, Bang, Vroom, Huh?, Crash, Kablam = Eagle Eye. A true escapist movie, Eagle Eye is explosive fun, as long as you don’t think too much and you don’t mind commercials.

Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf), an underachieving slacker, is blackmailed into a criminal situation, directed only by a woman over the phone that seems able to access all the electronics connected by some kind of network. Rachel Hollowman (Michelle Monaghan) is driven into the same situation with Jerry when her son is threatened. FBI Agent Thomas Morgan (Billy Bob Thorton) and Air Force Investigator Zoe Perez (Rosario Dawson) are assigned to investigate Shaw, and, as a consequence, Rachael. They all are led by the seat of their pants on the path the woman on the phone decides.

Eagle Eye is a two-hour chase scene. Jerry and Rachael are chased by the FBI, the Air Force, and the woman over the phone. The FBI and Air Force are hampered by the outstanding power of the woman on the phone. The cat and mouse game often drew me to the edge of my seat. There is a particular scene involving luggage that made me laugh and dodge in my seat.

During the middle of the Transformers, a fat kid with a digital camera comes running out of his house to take pictures of craters that fell from the night sky. He screams “this is 100 percent better than Armageddon!” Director Michael Bay makes it clear to us that he’s having a blast making this movie. The kid wasn’t lying. It is more fun than Bay’s Armageddon, and his Pearl Harbor. He found the right place to work his magic and we don’t feel overwhelmed by the special effects. This movie needs them unlike his previous films did. Having Steven Spielberg as executive producer could have only helped Bay.

I was never into the whole Transformers craze that was full throttle through the ’80s and ’90s. Morphing cars, airplanes, anything, it never struck interest in me. Never watching it could be a good thing because I didn’t expect it to be much (unlike TMNT). Watching it could have been a good thing as well because I could have a better idea of what was going on with the meaning and importance of the cube. Transformers proves to be a great action film and a great teenage love story at the same time. Fan of the franchise or not, the movie does it good justice.
