Release Date: February 13, 2013
Cover Price: 99¢

Super Corporate Heroes is Miguel Guerra and Suzy Dias’ brilliant and entertaining metaphor for the perpetual debate on public healthcare built around an early, ’80s style, comic world. In this unique political satire, superheroes are forced to obtain a license and serve under the monopolistic SuperHeroes Inc. Ordinary citizens must be insured to receive a rescue in times of need and, if they don’t have coverage, they are either subjected to an exorbitant fee or left to fend for themselves.

It’s survival of the fittest in this Candyland of Ayn Randian objectivism. Principled superheroes who long for the days of compassion and selflessness are driven out of the business and branded as commies by mouth-breathing talking heads and greedy politicians. With the Occupy protests coming out of hibernation on May Day and the election season swinging into high gear, the Super Corporate Heroes debut couldn’t have wished for better timing. This comic begins as a metaphor for the healthcare debates and quickly evolves into a satirical political commentary on the consequences of Social Darwinism.

The story kicks off with a man hanging on the ledge of a burning building. Through hokey inner dialogue, he wonders if he can survive the fall. But, thank goodness, help arrives in the form of The Shroud, who looks strikingly similar to Batman. Only The Shroud refuses to help the uninsured man until he purchases a rescue plan. They agree on the five rescue plan. By the end of the scene, the man is already fleeced out of three rescues.

Samurai Elf follows the adventures of the last elf on the planet Tyr. Ardan knows nothing about his past, but he suddenly becomes a very popular being. Problem is, not all of his “fans” have his best interest at heart. Thus begins Ardan’s tale of self-discovery and world adventure. Volume 1: Set Apart, keeps it simple by introducing the main influences in Ardan’s life, from a master Samurai Dwarf, who’s training Ardan really finds draining, to Keegan, a feisty, female samurai who takes a liking to Ardan and realizes her life has been too boring for too long, decides to share his quest for answers and destiny.

Along the way we also meet some of the Hordes horrific minions. Enhanced robotic humans who have allowed themselves to be transformed into hideous killing machines in order to do their “Fury’s” bidding. Namely, capture Ardan. But some of them are willing to risk “recycling” to gain vengeance on the last elf.
