Last year over $1.3 million was raised on Kickstarter for a reboot of the classic video game System Shock, the spiritual predecessor to BioShock.

Developer Nightdive Studios has been hard at work on the project ever since, and we get to see some of that work this week. A new pre-alpha teaser trailer has been released online, which includes some new peeks at gameplay.

We’ve already seen some gameplay action for System Shock, a remake of the ’90s classic of the same name. The game spawned a direct sequel as well as a little game called BioShock, which is considered a spiritual successor.

Now the System Shock remake has taken to Kickstarter to help ensure that it fully gets made and released, while also giving existing fans of the chance to get involved and share their thoughts instead of having a publisher put up the funding and possibly control things.

In addition to launching the Kickstarter campaign, a new trailer has also been released along with a gameplay demo video offering a great peek at how things are looking. You can see those below, as well as their awesome pitch video, which is filled with geeky game goodness and some ’90s nostalgia.

BioShock is one of my favorite games of all time, and I’ve always been aware that it was a spiritual successor to the System Shock series. Unfortunately I’ve never had the pleasure of playing those games, which were released in 1994 and 1999 respectively. But thankfully a chance to remedy that appears to be on the way.

A few years back Night Dive Studios acquired the rights to System Shock and began working on remastering the original game. The finished product is still off in the distance a bit, but the first peek at pre-alpha gameplay footage has now been released. You can check it out below.
