Nothing says 3D like a bunch of shirtless dudes playing volleyball. That’s exactly what some people think, as, according to THR, Tony Scott’s Top Gun is coming back to the big screen, and before it gets a sequel, it’s getting 3D. No set release date has been announced as of yet, except a planned release for some time in 2012. | Geek Gear: Top Gun Shirt ‘Negative Ghost Rider’
The t-shirt deal of the day over at RIPT Apparel is a Top Gun-inspired shirt called “Negative Ghost Rider.” The tee, by artist Matt Leyen, went on sale at RIPT today, Saturday, February 5, 2011, at midnight CST, and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it’s over, it will not be sold on the site anymore. The report includes various shots of their aircrafts and even a quick look at a training exercise in which a jet is destroyed by a missile. Unfortunately for producers of the show, this eagle-eyed super fan (named Liu Yi) points out that the Chinese J-10 fires off its missile and it hits an American F-5 jet…the very same taken out by a one Mr. Tom Cruise in Top Gun, interestingly enough. You can see a video of the original CCTV newscast below, as well as a second video from the Wall Street Journal that shows the footage side-by-side with Top Gun for everyone to make their own judgments.
