Wow. Apparently September/October has become the time for video game companies to release any game connected with a superhero franchise. Last week saw the release of X-Men: Destiny, Batman: Arkham City will be out in a couple of weeks, and this week sees the release of Spider-Man: Edge of Time. This new game from Activision/Beenox, the makers of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, allows players to play as the Amazing Spider-Man in the present day, as well as his 2099 counterpart in an adventure to stop the death of the web-slinger.

The Godfather and Apocalypse Now director Francis Ford Coppola has a new movie on the way titled Twixt. The movie will be hitting the festival circuit soon, including the Toronto International Film Festival which has premiered the first official extended festival trailer for the movie.

Twixt stars Val Kilmer as a novelist named Hall Baltimore whose success was thanks to a series of books about witches, but that success has long since departed. In hopes of trying something new, Baltimore uses the history and inspirations of a haunted town with a dark past involving a mysterious murder to craft his next tale.

The movie looks more like a Terry Gilliam film than Coppola, but it certainly looks intriguing. You can see for yourself by heading below now!

Director Francis Ford Coppola debuted footage from his new movie called Twixt, a new non-linear film making experience that incorporates live performances (music and narration) and both 2D and 3D sequences.

If you’re confused by that description, then you are not alone. I didn’t actually know what I was watching when Coppola played the first clip — even after an explanation to the audience.

Basically, Coppola wants to create a movie that can be performed, unlike the current crop of “canned” movies, which are what you see is what you get. Using new software, the director is able to play portions of scenes in different order. Both the narration and the film’s music, done by performance artist Dan Deacon, also has to be altered based on how the new scenes are arranged.

“Why do movies have to be ‘canned’? Everything is canned. The only things we have that’s live are concerts and sports,” Coppola said, adding that his granddaughter describes the excitement of seeing a movie on its premiere night because no one knows whether it’ll be good or bad.

“There is a yearning, I feel, for a little bit more of the live to be put back into film,” he explained.

We all know the drill — movie studios love to make movies similar to what other studios are making in order to compete and ultimately try and prevail. Whether it’s a historical figure or disastrous event at its core, or if it’s a new take on the many beloved fairy tales out there as we’ve been seeing lately, it happen on a pretty consistent basis.

Just such a pair of dueling movies came around in the early ’90s when Buena Vista Pictures and Warner Brothers delivered their own versions of the story of legendary law man Wyatt Earp. Buena Vista’s Tombstone is far and away the better of the two, but now it looks like we’ll get to see this very same cinematic battle once again.

It’s being reported that two new Wyatt Earp projects are in the works, one an indie flick that’s already in production and the other once again coming from Warners.

Say what you will, but I LOVE the Saturday Night Live “MacGruber” skits, and when I heard they were making a feature-length movie based on those skits, I was totally fine with it.

New red band and green band trailers for the film, which hits theaters on April 23, are now online. Watch them both here below.

The MacGruber skit is a spoof on the 1980’s action television series MacGyver, which starred Richard Dean Anderson as a secret agent known for his non-violent resourceful resolution methods, which were oftentimes over the top. The big joke has always been about what MacGyver could do with a piece of gum and some tape, so MacGruber just takes that to the next level.

The film stars SNL alum Will Forte as MacGruber, with fellow SNL co-star Kristen Wiig as part of his elite team. Ryan Phillippe (Crash) is also on this team, with Powers Boothe, Maya Rudolph, and Vil Kilmer rounding out the cast.
