Must Watch: ‘Mass Effect 3’ Announcement Trailer!

Another exciting announcement made at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards was the confirmation of BioWare’s Mass Effect 3, which came in the form of an announcement trailer.

Unlike The Elder Scrolls V, everyone has known from the star that Mass Effect would be a trilogy much in the same vein as Star Wars, so seeing this was no big shock. However, it was set up nicely as being that next big thing that BioWare was working on and many wondered if it would be a unique title, so there’s still a bit of excitement in seeing it with your own eyes.

The trailer is brief but exciting, as we’ve grown to expect from these games. It sets up what curiously looks like a storyline that will (at least partially) take place on our very own Earth.

‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ Announced By Bethesda With Preview & Release Date!

The words many gamers have been begging to hear since 2006 are finally here: the next chapter in The Elder Scrolls series is finally coming!

Last night at Spike TV‘s Video Game Awards, Bethesda Softworks’ Todd Howard made an appearance to announce the game that the studio has been working on in secrecy for quite a while now. It was a sure bet that the game would either be a follow-up to ’06’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, or a brand new original title. And though an original game from Bethesda would be exciting, nothing could top the confirmation of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Not only was Skyrim finally confirmed after four years of waiting, but a brief preview trailer complete with the game’s release date was also shown, making up for all the impatient waiting we’ve been doing. Thankfully, the release date isn’t all that far away either, meaning we can officially flip out about this game now!

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Rounding out our coverage of the 2009 Video Game Awards, here’s the teaser trailer for the new Prince of Persia video game entitled Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, and it’s an interesting prospect to behold.

Jake Gyllenhaal was on hand to introduce the game’s trailer, as well as a new (but mostly the same) trailer for his new movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The game is interesting because if you’re like me, you’ll wonder how this thing is going to play out. We all know the deal: movies adapted from video game titles are terrible and video games adapted from movies are terrible. So what happens when a video game is made that will likely be based more on the gigantic upcoming film that’s based on a hugely-popular pre-existing video game franchise? For example, as you will notice, Prince Dastan does look a tad more like Gyllenhaal in the trailer than he may have in the past. Things could go bad here, and they could go there very quickly. If the developers (Ubisoft, who have done the best of the game’s titles) stayed true to the old games this could be all the fun the others were, so let us hope and hope and hope.

You know the drill: head on over to watch the new trailer for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and share your own thoughts!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

In what can perhaps be claimed as the biggest surprise of the night during Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, a brand new teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II was shown to the masses! As it was with Batman: Arkham Asylum 2, it appears that most people had no idea that this game was even in the works, let alone that there was an awesome trailer ready to go (Note: the image at right was found at the Lucas Arts website, so it may have been announced before these awards were presented). With the huge new Knights of the Old Republic MMO being developed by BioWare, Star Wars and its universe is making a big push at completely taking over the world of gaming!

Once again, the trailer is of the cinematic variety, and it shows we the Apprentice from the first game walking down a corridor as the voices of Jedi Master Yoda and the dark Sith Lord Vader ring through his head, swaying him from one side to the other. We then get a glimpse at what appears to be a Rancor…a really f’n big Rancor.

I must say, I was really excited to play the first one, but as feared, all of the work that was done of the amazing physics took away from the story a bit, and I was left a little let down. That said, I still enjoyed the game enough to be totally excited to see what they can do in a sequel.

Head on over to the not-so-dark side to check out the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.

Video Game Awards ’09: ‘Tron: Evolution’ Trailer

Tron: Evolution

Another trailer that debuted at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards last night was for the new Tron game that is based on the upcoming movie sequel Tron: Legacy. The game’s title will be Tron: Evolution, and it was introduced by one of the stars of the film, Olivia Wilde.

As you’ll notice in the trailer, it says “Before The Legacy Starts,” so they’ll be setting the game before the new movie, which is what a lot of games do. Most video games based on movies come out before the actual film is released and no one likes a spoiler. Another thing that most video games based on movies have a tendency of doing is sucking, and unfortunately, the gameplay that they show here is not going to be blowing your face off.

Hopefully the game is still in its early stages and a lot of work is to be done before it is released this time next year. A well-done game in the world of Tron could be a really fun time…at least for you true geeks.

Head on over to the other side to check out the Tron: Evolution trailer for yourself!
