Amazon is having a big Box Set Blowout, which has lots of great deals on DVD box sets, so I’ve listed several items that I thought might be of interest.

But first, let me tell you what just happens to be the Gold Box spotlight item of the day: The X-Files: The Complete Collector’s Edition, which you can get for only $123.99. That’s 62% off the regular price and let me tell you, I’ve have been waiting for this item to not only go on sale, but to even be available at all — most times you can’t even get this, so I’m thinking that I might just need to gift this item to myself. It’s just too good to pass up. This comprehensive box set includes all nine seasons of the television series, the original feature film Fight The Future — another typically hard to find item — plus, the Mythology Threads featurettes.

And speaking of The X-Files, it looks like they’re selling a 2-pack of both movies — Fight The Future and I Want To Believe — in Blu-ray for $39.99: The X-Files Movie 2-Pack [Blu-ray]. (By the way, there’s still a chance to win a DVD or Blu-ray copy of the recently released I Want To Believe in the Geeks of Doom X-Files Contest.)

Feel free to let me know what you think about these offers and if you’re planning on taking advantage of them! See list of noteworthy items here below.

X-FilesThe X-Files: I Want To Believe
Directed by Chris Carter
Starring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly
Rated PG-13
Release date: July 25, 2008

“I can’t lose faith, Lancelot. It’s all I have left.” –Perceval from Excalibur

“How many times have we been here before, Scully? Right here. So close to the truth and now with what we’ve seen and what we know to be right back at the beginning with nothing.” — Fox Mulder from The X-Files: Fight The Future

“Let’s just say that I want to believe.” — Fox Mulder from The X-Files: I Want To Believe

The X-Files: Restoring Faith

The hedonistic glare of the Nineties is a distant memory. I remember my fervent weekly devotion to the X-Files television show. It was one of my favorite shows on network television. For me, the show was the very essence of Nineties television. In a post-Cold War landscape, it was time to turn the lens on ourselves. The show captured paranoia and conspiracy on a grand scale. The high concept pitch would have been The Parallex View meets Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

I would say the series worked very well for the first seven seasons. Why did it work? The relationship between David Duchovny‘s Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson‘s Dana Scully was and will always be the core of the X-Files. Tamper with that dynamic and you do not have much to work with at all. As much as I adore every incarnation of The Avengers, it was always at its best with Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg. Yes, Anderson and Duchovny have that kind of chemistry.
