Official Images & Concept Art From Tim Burton’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’

Alice in Wonderland

It appears to be all about Tim Burton‘s hybrid version of Alice in Wonderland recently, as multiple new images of the characters and some new concept art has been unleashed by Disney.

Yahoo! has the set of five new character images that Disney has released; featured is a new look at Alice (Mia Wasikowska), along with our first real look at Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Also, USA Today is presenting three new massive zoomable concept images — one you can see below, the others can be found by following the link.

The movie will mix live-action, CGI, and motion-capture technologies to create a fittingly wild and bizarre world — perfect for the imagination of Tim Burton. One thing that was not known, is that this new version is more of a sequel to Lewis Carroll‘s Through the Looking-Glass. The story will apparently pick up ten years later with Alice, now 17 years old, escaping a ritzy party and following a white rabbit down a hole, which brings her back to Wonderland. When she arrives, Alice does not remember her first visit as a young girl, but the beings of Wonderland — ready to fight back against the evil Queen — look to her to assist them.

I’m honestly not sure what I think of this project anymore, personally. The shots that we’ve seen of the live-action Alice have been beautiful and mesmerizing, but these motion-capture characters aren’t appealing to me at all. I’m especially let down by the picture of Depp as the Mad Hatter, which absolutely confirms that the ’80s fashion model image we saw a long while back (Read: Disney Meeting Reveals Johnny Depp As Mad Hatter…) was really what he was going to look like…a look that does not sit well. This could just me, but I really hope it all looks a lot better in the movie than it does here. I think that I just hoped that only the non-human characters would be motion-capture. Ah, well, wait and see it is!

Alice in Wonderland will be released on March 5, 2010.

  1. Alice’s journey starts at the common place of social inadequacy and keeps the track of the character that finds itself in the way of its own faith and finally accepts it. Nothing new.
