Actor Christopher Plummer (Up, The Last Station) has joined the cast of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the adaptation of the acclaimed novel of the same name by author Stieg Larsson. The book was first adapted in the 2009 Swedish film, which has received critical acclaim since its release.
The movie tells the story of a journalist and a tech-savvy girl who are hired by a former CEO who wants them to solve a 40-year-old cold case involving the disappearance of his great niece. As their investigation moves forward, many deep and dark secrets about the family come to surface.
Plummer will be playing the role of the former CEO, Henrik Vagner. Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Defiance) will play the journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, while Rooney Mara (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Social Network) will take on the role of the young hacker, Lisbeth Salander. The movie also stars Robin Wright (The Princess Bride, Beowulf) as Erika Berger and Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting, Pirates of the Caribbean) as Martin Vagner.
The U.S. adaptation will be directed by David Fincher (The Social Network, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), and it’s written by Steven Zaillian, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind Schindler’s List, Gangs of New York, and American Gangster.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is set for release on December 21, 2011.
