Doctor Who

The mid-series finale for Series 6 of Doctor Who is here, and while Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her baby are being held captive by Madame Kovarian (Frances Barber) and the Cleric Military, the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) call upon old debts from a variety of unlikely allies to form an “army,” as A Good Man Goes To War.

The Doctor will rise higher than ever before, and fall so much further – and the true identity of the enigmatic River Song (Alex Kingston) will finally be revealed…

During TARDISblend 29, we review the events of A Good Man Goes To War, the conclusion to the first half of the current season. We discuss the final revelation of who River Song truly is, and the band of companions the Doctor unites for his army to find Amy Pond. We look at the consequences of the Doctor being seen and feared as a great warrior, and speculate on what to expect for the second part of Series 6.

We also discuss the recent news about Series 7 – which now looks like it will be split across the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013. We recommend some Classic Doctor Who, and reveal a spoiler for Torchwood: Miracle Day. All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and Tom Cheredar (Tched from The Drill Down Podcast) TARDISblend is a mini podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures of Doctor Who – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!

  1. Okay…A couple of things.

First, you mention the Timelord “Omega.”  Since this is inevitably one of the final incarnations of The Doctor, do you think it’s possible that The Valeyard (from Trial of a Timelord, who was a dark incarnation of The Doctor) might be the big bad?

Second, remember that the Flesh replicated everything perfectly, down to the shoes.  Then The Doctor and his Ganger switched shoes.  Which means that part of the Ganger remained intact, and is potentially a blueprint for a full Ganger version.  Which means that it is possible that the Doctor who was killed in The Impossible Astronaut was the Ganger doctor.

Third, you mention that River Song is the first of a new breed of Timelords…  Has everyone forgotten about The Doctor’s daughter from the episode of the same name?  Where’s she gotten off to?

Is it creepy (and the ultimate in pedophilia) that the doctor is 900 years older than River, has literally known her since she was born, is married to and making out with her?

River killed the best man she’s ever known.  But do you think it was the Doctor?  Or her father?  After the introduction that Amy gave her about her father (he’s a great warrior, he looks young but is really very old, he’s coming for her, etc.), I think she actually kills her father before she knows who he is.

Okay…That’s it.  Had to get that off my chest. Great show!

  2. Patrick Stewart in a wig could be a brilliant stand-in for the FIRST Doctor…  Anyone?

  3. I could see this being something of interest.  He could pull it off I think.

  4. Lots of questions and speculation there, Scott.  One thing I’d like to point out is that we don’t really know how old River Song truly is.  With her time lord enhanced DNA, it’s entirely possible she’s inherited the aging factor of Time Lords, and may in fact be *almost* as old as the Doctor…  wibbly wobbly timey wimey…!

    Thanks for listening!

  5. always enjoy your Doctor Who podcasts because you two have great insights and pick up on everything that I miss, which is quite a lot.  All this timey whimey stuff confuses the crap out of me!  You guys make things crystal clear.

I also only just started watching the Doctor with this new “reboot” beginning with Eccleston so the old things you bring up help me and are quite interesting.  Someday I’ll have to time to go back and watch some of those shows.

Looking forward to your Torchwood podcasts and enjoy the whole site.  Keep up the fantastic work :)
