Of all the heroes on the Avengers roster, Hawkeye is the one who has gotten the least amount of screentime. Sure he was in Thor, but that really wasn’t a significant role. Black Widow had two supporting roles in Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Agent Maria Hill even had a small role in the Captain America sequel as well. But during the events of Marvel’s Phase 2, it seems that Hawkeye has been out of the picture. Which is a bit strange considering everything that has been going on. So, one might think that Hawkeye would have a bigger role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, or even get his own solo film, but Jeremy Renner doesn’t believe in the latter.
According to him, he doesn’t believe that Hawkeye should get his own film, and better serves as a utility player for films like The Avengers, and “possibly” Captain America 3. Hit the jump to read more comments from him and to see a video of him talking the character.
Here’s what the actor had to say about the character and his role in the MCU:
“I’m happy to be the ensemble. I’m not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means. I think he’s a utility guy that can bounce around into other people’s universes a little bit, especially like Cap 3.”
Yes Renner is spinning that Captain America 3 rumor mill again. So will he or won’t he be in it? The actor is currently on the Kill The Messenger press tour, so you can probably expect him to dodge or just playfully answer any questions regarding (or lack thereof) his involvement in Captain America sequel.
Back to there being no Hawkeye solo film. The character does have a few solo comic book series under his name, so there is material for a solo film, it’s just a matter of Marvel Studios deciding whether or not it is a good idea to adapt any of them.
Here’s the full video interview with the actor and MTV. Also, watch out for that playful wink.
