Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios held an event today at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles to make some stunning announcements revolving around their Phase Three film release slate, the details of which have mostly been the subject of rumor and conjecture until now. Studio president Kevin Feige hosted the event (with some surprise guests) and later held court at a press-only Q&A following the announcements.

Movies/release dates that were announced or confirmed include Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther (including who will play the title role), Captain Marvel, Inhumans, and a two-part Avengers titled Avengers: Infinity War.

You can read a full recap of the event, and see logo images for all of these movies and an official concept art image of Black Panther below!

The Avengers Iron Man and Captain America

When Robert Downey Jr.‘s contract with Marvel was redone, it only entailed him to be in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and one other Avengers films. But curiosity started to arise when RDJ began talking Iron Man 4 during his The Judge press tour. While it was confirmed that there was no Iron Man 4 was in the works, many were wondering why the actor was pushing Marvel Studios during a movie press tour that had no Marvel connections. He did mention that Marvel had one huge announcement to make, and this would certainly qualify as a huge announcement.

Variety reports that Tony Stark will be joining Captain America 3. While the news of the casting is confirmed, it has started a rumor that Stark’s involvement could mean that the MCU would be headed towards the Civil War storyline instead of Infinity Gauntlet. Hit the jump for more.

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Of all the heroes on the Avengers roster, Hawkeye is the one who has gotten the least amount of screentime. Sure he was in Thor, but that really wasn’t a significant role. Black Widow had two supporting roles in Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Agent Maria Hill even had a small role in the Captain America sequel as well. But during the events of Marvel’s Phase 2, it seems that Hawkeye has been out of the picture. Which is a bit strange considering everything that has been going on. So, one might think that Hawkeye would have a bigger role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, or even get his own solo film, but Jeremy Renner doesn’t believe in the latter.

According to him, he doesn’t believe that Hawkeye should get his own film, and better serves as a utility player for films like The Avengers, and “possibly” Captain America 3. Hit the jump to read more comments from him and to see a video of him talking the character.

hawkeye avengers

It’s never a dull moment during the production of any Marvel film. And as we have seen, characters can be killed but resurrected, or they can fake their deaths, or they can just disappear into the winds, but if there is one Marvel character that hasn’t gotten a fair shake it would probably be Jeremy Renner‘s Hawkeye. Renner was a last minute addition to Thor, he was basically a villain for almost three-quarters of The Avengers, and he didn’t get to appear alongside his fellow assassin, Black Widow, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But the actor may have dropped a huge spoiler about Hawkeye, and the future of his character in the MCU.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron director Joss Whedon said that Hawkeye won’t be moping around as a hypnotized baddie in the second film, which is a good thing. Whedon then said he would like to kill someone in the film, and all eyes went on Hawkeye, which would make sense, had it not been for this latest rumor: Hawkeye could be in Captain America 3. Hit the jump to learn more.

Falcon Won’t Become Cap In ‘Captain America 3’

Anthony Mackie The Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel Comics has made a few changes to their characters in the past few weeks. It first started out with revealing that Thor will be a woman. Series writer Jason Aaron emphasized, “This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.” Then it was announced that The Falcon would become the new Captain America. While these changes show how progressive the comic book giant can be, there was a lot of speculation on how the changes would impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially since many of the actors’ contracts will expire after The Avengers 3.

It would make sense to make these changes in the films to coincide with the changes in comics. But, wait just one moment. Like any adaptation, the films don’t always follow their source materials to the letter, and screenwriters and directors are always taking creative liberties with these comic book properties. That’s why Captain America 3 scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely say that we shouldn’t expect to see Falcon become Captain America in the next sequel, but they don’t want fans to give up hope on the idea either. Hit the jump for more.
