It looks like Will Arnett wont be the only member of Arrested Development‘s chaotically dysfunctional Bluth family to be venturing into Warner Brothers’ cinematic Legoland as one of DC Comics’ most iconic superheros.
Michael Cera, who played Arnett’s nephew George Michael Bluth on Arrested (and also starred in a few films you might have heard of, such as Superbad, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Juno, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and so on), has signed on to the voice cast of the upcoming The Lego Batman Movie. He’ll be playing none other than the Dark Knight’s longtime faithful sidekick Robin, the Boy Wonder.
You might have already known this, but Lego Batman is a spin-off of last year’s blockbuster animated feature The Lego Movie. Chris McKay, the Lego Movie‘s animation supervisor and a veteran animator, producer, and director for various Adult Swim series, will direct Lego Batman from a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and others. Grahame-Smith previously wrote Dark Shadows for Warner Bros. and currently has a Beetlejuice sequel in development there as well.
The Lego Movie‘s writer-director team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller will serve as producers on Lego Batman.
We can expect there to plenty of hilarious jokes made at Robin’s expense, most of which will likely come from Batman himself. I’m hoping for another original tune from Arnett’s plastic brick Caped Crusader. “DARKNESS! NO PARENTS!” That will never get old. So far, Arnett and Cera are the only actors who have been officially announced for the cast, but the release date is about a year-and-a-half away. I can’t wait to see who they get to play the villains.
The Lego Batman Movie will be released in theaters on February 10, 2017.
