Bytes: King Adaptations Abound

- HOSTEL’s Eli Roth is set to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s newest book CELL, about a mysterious cell phone pulse that turns people into murderous zombies (are there any other kind?).
- Q and Miss Moneypenny didn’t make the cut for the new James Bond movie, CASINO ROYALE. The movie, starring Daniel Craig, opens November 17.
- The Weinstein Company has plans for a CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON Broadway show as well as a series of films based on the CRANE – IRON PENTALOGY, which included CROUCHING TIGER.
- John Cusack will star as a paranormal debunker in 1408, based on Stephen King’s short story.
- New Line is taking liberties with the Peter Pan story. The movie company is producing PAN, a supernatural thriller about a bad guy on the run from a policeman named Hook.
- Brad Pitt is producing a movie based on Mary Doria Russell’s sci-fi novel THE SPARROW, about a Jesuit priest on a foreign planet.
- The cast has been lined up for the next RESIDENT EVIL movie, EXTINCTION. Milla Jovovich, Oded Fehr, Mike Epps, and Iain Glen will reprise their roles from the first film.
- The TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURLES are heading back to movie theaters. This time in computer-animated form, on March 30, 2007.
- Stan Lee is getting into reality TV. WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO, which is coming to the Sci Fi Channel this summer, pits a group of costumed contestants in a series of challenges. Every week, Lee will appear, a la Donald Trump, and boot one of the superhero wannabes off the show. Pow! Entertainment will immortalize the winning ‘character’ in a comic book.
- G4’s STAR TREK 2.0 is adding a bit of technology to the old series. Classic Star Trek episodes will air on the cable channel within an on-screen frame that will display such things as Trek Facts, Trek Stats, and comments from a real-time chat room on the G4 website. STAR TREK 2.0 will air Mondays through Fridays at 11 p.m. starting April 10.
- According to KissKollector.com, guitarist Ace Frehley reviews STARGATE ATLANTIS in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly and hints that he’ll appear in a future episode of the Sci Fi channel series.
- More casting news for the C-B-S superhero drama ULTRA. Richard Coyle has been hired to play ‘Cryptic Man.’ He joins Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey in the pilot.
- Nickelodeon is producing two new cartoon series — TAK AND THE POWER OF JUJU and the flash-animated project EL TIGRE.

I’d love to read that Ace Frehley review in ET of Stargate: Atlantis. I wonder if he’s done scifi reviews like this before. Also, it looks like a lot is happening in the Stephen King world (not sure if that’s good or bad!!!)!
