Five new animated comedies will join the Cartoon Network’s late-night Adult Swim lineup later this year. The shows include such wacky characters as the devil’s daughter, a Norwegian death metal band, and a vigilante who looks like a giant ass. Here’s a rundown.
Death Clock Metalocalypse: Dethklok is a popular, talented, and very stupid Norwegian death metal band that leaves a path of death and destruction wherever it plays. Guests will include Metallica’s James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett, and Mark Hamill will be part of the voice cast. The series was created by Brendon Small (of Adult Swim’s “Home Movies”) and Tommy Blacha, both of whom will provide voices as well as write and perform Dethklok’s extensive catalog of heavy metal tunes. Twenty episodes of the show, which will debut in August, have been order.
Frisky Dingo: Awesome-X, the alter ego of billionaire Xander Crews, has to prevent the evil villain Killface from destroying the Earth, or at least look like he’s trying — because stopping Killface might slow down sales of Xander’s Awesome-X toys. Thirteen episodes are in production, from the creators of Adult Swim’s original series “Sealab 2021.”
Assy McGee: Assy McGee’s bolt-action SKS assault weapon and ever-present toothpick are all this vigilante sniper needs to deliver his brand of street justice. Oh, and he happens to look like a huge ass. Ten episodes are in production for the series, which will debut in December.
Saul of the Mole Men: A stranded scientist happens upon the Mole Men, injuring their leader, killing their god, and spreading disease. Look for political intrigue, time travel, and vampires in this live-action puppet and animation hybrid.
Lucy, The Daughter of the Devil: What’s the devil to do when his daughter, who can hardly stand him, dates a DJ hippie who’s possibly the Second Coming? How about unleash some hounds of hell? The show was created using CGI animation. Ten episodes are in production.
