Monty Python fans in London will attempt to break world record for world’s largest coconut orchestra.
Move over London Symphony, here come the “coconuts”!
A throng of coconut-shell-bearing minstrels will soon attempt to break a world record by creating the world’s largest “coconut orchestra.” The festivities will take place on April 23 in London’s Trafalgar Square, famous for Nelson’s Column along with its lions and pigeons, and in the near future, coconuts.
The event is being organized by the Mayor of London in association with the BFI, Python (Monty) Pictures Ltd., and the Monty Python musical Spamalot. The London event, which is part of the St. George celebrations this month, will conclude with an open-air screening of the classic Monty Python film Monty Python and the Quest For The Holy Grail.
The historic day will include Spamalot cast members leading a public “clip-clop” coconut clap in time to the Python song Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. This will be followed by an attempt to break the previous coconut orchestra world record, which consisted of 1,785 people last year in New York. The Guinness Book of Records will be on hand in London to observe. The orchestra is expected to consist of over 2,000 coconut carriers, not including swallows.
