Empress Eve   |  @   |

The official site for The Dark is Rising is now live and contains the first trailer for the upcoming fantasy adventure film based on the novel by Susan Cooper.

Read the official synopsis and watch the trailer here after the jump.

Directed by David Cunningham, the Fox-Walden film stars Ian McShane, Alexander Ludwig, Frances Conroy, Gregory Smith, and Christopher Eccleston.

Filming began eariler this year in Romania on The Dark is Rising, which is scheduled to hit theaters October 5, 2007.

I had read that this trailer was to be attached to the theatrical screenings of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but it was not shown during the viewing I went to last night. I assume it must have been shown in other theaters/cities, as it’s no coincidence that this trailer has gone live today.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: Baed on the acclaimed novel by Susan Cooper, THE DARK IS RISING is the first film adaptation of the author’s acclaimed The Dark is Rising Sequence. The film tells the story of Will Stanton, a young man who learns he is the last of a group of warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the Dark. Traveling back and forth through time, Will discovers a series of clues which lead him into a showdown with forces of unimaginable power. With the Dark once again rising, the future of the world rests in Will’s hands.

  1. Wow. They could not possibly have gotten more wrong.

    Did they READ the book?

  2. Watching that made me a little sick. It looks nothing like the book. No mall scenes, no girl friends, no super strength. The book was much more serious and dark than what this movie tends to believe.

  3. I just witnessed the trailer. I am both shocked and dismayed. Obviously, artistic integrity wasn’t high on their list when the producers decided to turn this much loved series into a cheap movie franchise. They’ve totally rewritten a classic. I, for one, will not be seeing the movie and I urge all true fans to boycott it. I’m okay with books being turned into movies. I am NOT okay with some hack screwing with the plot just to make a buck.

  4. I urge everyone who loves fantasy and fantasy novels, everyone who has ever hoped to see their own favourites onscreen – boycott this complete mess. It should bomb, and bomb hard, to teach the arrogant idiots who made it that destroying a beautiful story is not the way to ‘adapt’ it.
