SHRED. Officially referring to the ripping apart of something. Unofficially referring to a rock guitarist’s best solos. Now, a cunning mix of both known as Shreds has arrived thanks to StSanders.
Finnish artist Santeri Ojala, aka StSanders, takes classic rock shredding footage and cunningly overdubs it with, well, anything but classic guitar work. Cleverly matching the fingerwork and some other on-stage antics, at first it’s tough to call it, til you realize just how utterly awful the solo is. StSanders has gone and put these Shreds through the shredder. (Check out our favorites: Jake E. Lee with Ozzy Osbourne and Eddie Van Halen.)
So, I decided to ask him some stupid questions….
Geeks of Doom: Do you like sushi?
StSanders: Only deep fried.
GoD: How do you put these together?
StS: I turn off the original sound, observe the expressions of the performers, and just play along.
GoD: Clearly you have a serious appreciation for guitars, how many do you own and what’s your favorite?
StS: I’ve got 2 electric guitars, 3 acoustic guitars, 1 bass guitar (which is perpetually loaned from a former punk rocker bassist), 1 mandolin, and a Namibian finger piano. I think I like the Epiphone Dot the most, even though on all of the “shreds” the overly scalloped Iba was used.
GoD: Amp?
StS: Vox. (I’ve also got a line6 pod , which I refer as “the guitar effect”).
GoD: If you could have any rock god’s hair on your head, whose would it be?
StS: Easy! Marty Friedman’s former hair.
GoD: Mac or PC?
StS: Mac.
So there you have it, go and check all of these out on StSanders YouTube page when you are ready to fall off your chair in hysterics.
Thanks StSanders for your dedication to all things Rock, and yet Not.
