He was the man behind the Iron Man mask earlier this summer, easily the second biggest comic book movie adaptation of the year. The role has obviously given Robert Downey Jr. some credibility once again, but his recent comments about Iron Man‘s comic book movie rival The Dark Knight might lose him some of it.
Whether he’s just trying to make a splash or publicize the fact that he’s stupid, Downey has come out and given The Dark Knight and DC Comics one of the biggest shots across the bow I’ve seen in awhile.
“My whole thing is that that I saw ‘The Dark Knight’. I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get how many things that are so smart. It’s like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I loved ‘The Prestige’ but didn’t understand ‘The Dark Knight’. Didn’t get it, still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so high brow and so f–king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’ You know what? F-ck DC comics. That’s all I have to say and that’s where I’m really coming from.”
You can check out the full article over at MovieHole, where Downey looks back at Iron Man, and the upcoming Tropical Thunder. Either way, let the Marvel vs. DC war begin anew!
This is very unexpected.

Really, this could be construed as something of a compliment.
Ruling…

Sweet, I am glad that he is channeling a-hole Tony Stark in all of his interviews, in prep of Iron Man 2.
Or Maybe he is still bitter that Ben Stiller’s nephew Carl told him the truth of how it was going to be this summer.
“It’ll do…until Dark Kinght comes out, then you’re screwed”
“Christian Bale would kick your ass”

Guys, it’s pretty damn obvious that he’s kidding. He knows how to mock himself (see the 2008 MTV Movie Awards skit) and take shots at everybody else in a tongue-in-cheek tone. Re-read his comment while imagining it said in a sarcastic manner, and you won’t get so upset.

Right, and what are you smoking? That was obviously RDJ classic sarcastic humor there with a bit of truth to it. The script was all over the place – still love it, but as far as scripts go, not that good. Ledger on the other hand, hella awesome.

I can’t believe someone would knock The Dark Knights script. Wow.
If you can’t handle Atlas Shrugged, don’t read Atlas Shrugged, know what I mean?

it’s funny that Robert Downey Jr. said the Dark Knight is too sophisticated when he himself tends to sound so sophisticated
