‘Stargate Atlantis’ TV Series Cancelled
space
MajorJJH   |

AtlantisWe knew this day would come, and the SCI FI Channel has officially announced that Stargate Atlantis is airing its fifth and final season.

However, all is not lost for diehard fans of Atlantis, with SCI FI similarly announcing that a 2-hour Atlantis movie would also be coming our way in 2009.

The Stargate franchise has done well over the past decade. Stargate SG1 ran for a total of 10 seasons before quitting and making two direct-to-DVD movies, which have done well themselves. So they know what it is they are doing. And with an Atlantis movie to continue the story, we’ll be getting to see our characters still.

It wasn’t a surprise, that SCI FI announced they were canceling Atlantis. It is definitely a disappointment, but given the success of the SG1 movies, it is a wise decision. In addition, the third Stargate TV show currently in development has been waiting in the wings for Atlantis to finish so that it can go ahead. Now, Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, executive producers and showrunners on Atlantis for its final two seasons — who will be writing the upcoming Atlantis tele-movie — will have the time to dedicate to this new series.

“We’re excited to tell Atlantis stories on a bigger canvas,” series creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper said. “The successes of the two original Stargate DTV movies The Ark of Truth and Continuum have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise.”

Stargate fans take heart, we are nowhere near the end of the franchise just yet.

  1. Wow, well that saddens me.

  2. Was a fun ride while it lasted, although Atlantis was starting to loose quality in season 4. Season 5 has been ok so far though.

Hopefully this new spin off will have the same great quality as SG1 had/has.

  4. WHAT I LOVE STARGATE ATLANTIS. :( I was mad when they end stargate sg-1 but NOW STARGATE ATLANTIS are they crazy. They were the best shows ever. I start watching them when i was 7 and now im 12. I have been watching them for 5 years and your just going to end them!!!!!! Well that makes me mad.

  5. The cancellation wouldn’t be so bad if Scifi/MGM hadn’t announced their ‘shiny new toy’ Stargate Universe – at the same time. They’ll never learn. It ticks off the fans to no end to realize that SGA is ‘too old’ and that a ‘younger vibe’ about ‘young and desperate’ explorers trapped on a ship (duh, Stargate Voyager, anyone?) is what fans want?

Fans don’t want a franchise. Fans want the show they’ve come to love for the past five seasons (well, we haven’t seen all of seaosn 5, but anyway…)

  6. Its hard to believe that they are really had canceled my favorite shows. Here i was thinking they are gonna make as much shows just like Stargate sg1, they have made 10 seasons and its feels so wrong because its has been canceled.

I seen all the episodes of Stargate and Stargate on TV and online which makes it a lot more enjoyable when watching it on TV. I love every single show they made even with rodney Dr beckett elizabeth weir and sheppard as well as ronon and tayla. I just wish the episodes they are gonna make to finish this seasons comes with full excitement and suspense as well as keeping the viewers the suspense to keep them guessing.

I am a stargate sg1 and stargate atlantis fan i will do in all of my power to collect posters of them and if they have toys then i will collect them.

But its ashame that they have canceled the other seasons i truly love to watch come but not go.

Its really hard seeing them go and i hope they make another spin-off because i will truly be disappointed if they dont.

Easy comes easy go but since they are gonna make the movie i guess the fun never ends.

  7. This suck I own tons of sg1 and sga stuff and i love watching them ever friday. Now that sci fi is stopping them it piss me off. We will get 1 or 2 movies and that will be it. The new series better be off the wall or it is going to make me hate sci fi more and more.

  8. This is so lame. When will Sci-fi learn? Instead all they seem to care about is making B horror flicks.
