Stargate Origins has officially begun production on its 10-episode series and has cast a lead actress. Ellie Gall will play the role of Catherine Langford, the woman who discovered the Stargate, as depicted in past films and television series.
The series is being produced in conjunction with New Form and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). As noted in our story about Geeks of Doom’s exclusive demo at New York Comic Con, the show will air on the new digital platform, Stargate Command, later this year.
In a press release, Stargate Command stated:
Stargate Origins is a premium digital series that will explore a brand new chapter in Catherine’s early history surrounding the extraordinary portal. The show will follow young Catherine as she embarks on an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save Earth from unimaginable darkness.
Gall is excited to take on the role:
“The opportunity to portray this iconic character is once in a lifetime. I’m thrilled to be a part of the Stargate family and I hope Stargate fans are as equally excited as I am about Catherine Langford’s new adventure.”
The Australian actress is known for her roles on A Midsummer’s Nightmare and Mind Over Maddie, as well as recurring parts on A Place to Call Home and Puberty Blues.
There’s another piece of news that should interest Stargate fans far and wide: Stargate Command also confirmed that Connor Trinneer (Michael Kenmore on Stargate Atlantis) will return to the franchise to play Professor Langford, Catherine’s father.
Supporting cast members include: Salome Azizi, Philip Alexander, Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, Daniel Rashid, Sarah Navratil, Shvan Aladdin, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Derek Chariton, Justin Michael Terry and Lincoln Werner Hoppe. Fans will be happy to hear that more information on these roles will be announced soon in a matter of weeks.
