I’m not one to pay attention to celebrity gossip or feuds, but some items make me take notice. One such instance is the long-running feud between Star Trek alums William Shatner and George Takei, which was back in the headlines again this week after the 77-year-old Shatner posted a video on YouTube talking about how upset that he was not to be invited to Takei’s recent wedding to long-time partner Brad Altman last month.
I saw Shatner’s video, as well as Takei’s exclusive rebuttal on ET where he states that Shatner was invited, but never responded, but really didn’t think anything of it (watch both videos here below). I’ve read every Trek biography out there, so I know that at some point or another, each member of the original cast was angry with Shatner for what they perceived to be his hogging of screen time on the 1960s television series. Claims were that Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk on the scifi series, often fought for most of the close-up shots and dialogue, which took away scenes from the supporting actors, including Takei, who played Lt. Hikaru Sulu. Shatner even owned up to this in numerous autobiographies and over the course of 40 years, has made it a point to speak to every one of his co-stars about the situation (except maybe for James Doohan, who I think refused to speak to him).

Some footage from San Diego Comic Con earlier this year was leaked out and that footage for the most part became what we saw recently at the Spike TV 2008 Scream Awards. That footage was fun and gave us a first taste, but this new teaser really starts to set the table and will definitely get fans excited for the Friday, February 13, 2009 release! Check out the teaser below.

| Comic Review: The Darkness #1-3: Raw Edition |
The Darkness #1-3: Raw Edition
Written by Phil Hester
Penciled by Michael Broussard
Letters by Troy Peteri
Cover by Michael Broussard, Joe Weems, Mat Milla
Top Cow Productions
Cover price: $3.00; Available now
Why play God when you can be the Devil, himself? For more than a decade the anti-hero, The Darkness, has been a familiar name in the comic book world. Original creators, Garth Ennis, Marc Silvestri, and David Wohl showcased the first appearance in 1996 in another one of their Top Cow productions, Witchblade. The Darkness has been an amazing success due to its very dark undertone and graphically mature art design. This is one series that has made a creatively nefarious read out of a devilish persona. Jackie Estacado has been bestowed with the Darkness, an unseemingly evil concoction of ascendancy. He befriends an ingenious scientist that teaches Jackie how to channel his unique devilish gift. The two team up to take on a small tropical city in the South American landmass. Faster than you can say, “Columbia Drug Packing Mule,” the duo have the city and large populated areas of the world dealing and pushing a new drug. The drug, called nightfall, is so pristine it’s undetected, isn’t addictive, doesn’t have any bad long-term effects, and it’s still legal. According to one drug-pushing goon in the comic and a line I thought sounded so natural coming from a pusher: “You got two choices. You can have Jessica Alba working your knob while you lie on a pile of cash sipping rum on you private yacht in the Mediterranean, or you can take the drug.”

 Iron Man
Ultimate 2-Disc Edition
Directed by Jon Favreau
Starring Robert Downey Jr, Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard
Paramount Home Entertainment
Release date: September 30, 2008
Before The Dark Knight came along in July, Iron Man was the big box office hit of the summer and the new superhero film favorite of the masses — and with good reason. Director Jon Favreau took a long-time Marvel superhero who was little known to the general public and made him a household name. But while Favreau directing prowess got this project off the ground, it’s doubtful that audiences would have embraced the film without Robert Downey Jr.‘s charismatic portrayal of billionaire playboy/engineering genius Tony Stark, who dons his high-tech suit of armor to become the superhero Iron Man. Unlike with The Incredible Hulk — another of this summer’s Marvel superhero flicks — Iron Man allows the audience to get to know its hero and fall in love with his human side before the superhero aspects come into being. Iron Man introduces us to weapons manufacturer Tony Stark: he’s handsome, he’s rich, he’s charming, and he’s funny as hell; the ladies love him and he sure does love the ladies. Stark’s confidence is alluring, so even when he’s gravely injured and abducted by hostile Afghani terrorists during a product pitch to the U.S. military, he’s never looked upon as a victim (the way Edward Norton’s Dr. Bruce Banner is in The Incredible Hulk). You know with an attitude like his, Stark is bound to not only find a way out of his dire situation, but also turn it to his advantage.
