TV Review: ‘Testees’ Episode 1
space
The Geeks of Doom   |  @   |

By KefkaTaran

TesteesTestees
Episode 1
Starring Steve Markle, Jeff Kassel, Joe Pingue, Kim Schraner
FX Network
Thursdays @ 10:30 PM

For the first five minutes or so, Testees seems full of a Judd Apatow-esque kind of potential. Main characters Ron (Steve Markle) and Peter (Jeff Kassel) are goofy-looking everymen living in an apartment together with no money and less class. The two exchange awkward banter that’s a bit crass but also strangely endearing. Most importantly, it gets the point across: This duo of bemused slackers needs cash fast. There’s even an Office-style opening.

And with that we’re off into the main premise of the show and what FX hopes will keep viewers tuning in. As it turns out, Ron and Peter have just quit a job a Testico, a local facility that tests out new drugs and products on willing human lab rats. The probable structure of each episode is clear from the outset: Ron and Peter head to the lab and get a suppository — complete with an unnecessarily lengthy robot rape gag in this debut — then the two wait for unexpected but hilarious side effects to ensue. It’s a concept that lends itself more to gross-out scenes and fart jokes than dialogue-based comedy, so it’s no surprise that as soon as the two enter Testico, whatever charming humor they had is immediately thrown out the window.

space
MajorJJH   |

Star Wars fans can get excited again (if you aren’t already thanks to Star Wars: The Clone Wars) with BioWare and LucasArts announcing yesterday news that they are working on a new Star Wars MMORPG. But this time, instead of being related to Star Wars Galaxies, it’ll be set in the massively popular universe of Knights of the Old Republic.

“It’s a whole galaxy. It’s a galaxy of Star Wars,” said Ray Muzyka, CEO of BioWare. “It’s going to take your gaming experience to a higher level.”

OK, well that’s all good and well, but “¦ why will it do that?

Well, according to the developers of the game, players will not be stuck on one planet, but will be able to traverse an entire Star Wars universe, with two factions to choose from so far announced: the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.

Empress Eve   |  @   |

WatchmenDirector Zack Snyder and members of the Watchmen cast made an appearance last night at the Spike TV 2008 Scream Awards, where they offered up an extended movie trailer for the highly anticipated film.

Watch the video of it here below.

In other Watchmen news, a test screening of the film was held in Portland last week supposedly for people not familiar with the comic book its adapted film. Reports from the screening, as well as from previous ones held in Los Angeles, were positive.

But, there’s been new information reported regarding the film’s ending, so here comes the spoiler warning.

Mind you, these reports have not been officially confirmed and were originally posted on an IMDb message board, but were quickly removed. Even so, if you don’t want to know anything about the ending of the film, read no further.

Script Review For Brian K. Vaughan’s ‘Roundtable’
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

VaughanOur friends over at First Showing were able to get their hands on and offer up the first script review for Roundtable by Brian K. Vaughan.

For those unfamiliar with the project, it takes the well-known King Arthur world and creates a new story from it. Basically, after helping to keep things civil so long ago, the wizard Merlin now lives alone and does nothing all day. When informed that a dangerous old foe has returned, Merlin must gather up a new batch of knights to fight for England. Unfortunately, being modern day, the dangerous and skilled knights of old are no more — the knights of modern day are as follows: a scientist, an out-of-shape former athlete, an extremely rich jackass, and naturally… Michael Caine. Yes, the actual Michael Caine was written in as a character.

Judging by the script review, the movie has all sorts of promise. This was assumed right away just because it was Vaughan writing it, but now there’s confirmation that the characters and the story are all very solid, very funny and everything works really well.
