Conversations with GoD: ‘Halloween Man’ Writer Drew Edwards
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

Halloween ManGeeks of Doom had the chance to ask Drew Edwards, creator and writer of the indie comic Halloween Man, some questions about his work, how he got there, and where things may be going!

For those unfamiliar with the title, Halloween Man began as a webcomic about a regular dude named Solomon who becomes a V8 for a hungry vampire. Instead of death, a wizard named Morlack decides to channel the monster movies on TV into him, making him completely immortal, but very zombie-like, needing too feed on some flesh as often as he can. Thankfully his girlfriend is into the wild and crazy, so being undead, having half a deformed face and a purely skeletal arm happens to be alright with her. He also has an enchanted shovel to do battle with and his buddies Nickodemis and Man-Goat to keep him company!

And now, the universe of Halloween Man will crossover into the world of Devil’s Due’s Hack/Slash with Hack/Slash vs Halloween Man, Part 1 of which available now in jpg or pdf formats, and eventually as part of a printed trade paperback collection. If you’re into comics, be sure to check it out, and for all your artists out there, there’s still time to enter the Halloween Man contest (details below).

Save The Date for Andy & Angela’s Wedding on ‘The Office’
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

On last night’s episode of The Office episode, titled “Crime Aid,” Andy gave his fellow co-workers a “Save the Date” card for his and Angela’s upcoming wedding.

Now, you can download your own “Save the Date” card at Andy and Angela’s Wedding page.

At the site, you can read about how Andy and Angela met, how Andy proposed, and a details about the plans for their impending Thanksgiving nuptials, all written by the happy groom-to-be himself. While you’re browsing around, you can sign the Guestbook too (you’ll notice some familiar signees there already).

But “Crime Aid” also had a major downer moment when the office is broken into and robbed. Below is a video of some of the workers talking about previous times they’ve been the victim of thievery; there’s also a video with some deleted scenes from the episode.

Seth Rogen’s ‘Green Hornet’ Will Start At The Beginning
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

HornetIn an interview with MTV, Seth Rogen let the world know that due to the severe lack of fans, The Green Hornet will start at the beginning and cover the origins of the Hornet and his pal Kato.

Rogen will be writing the script with Evan Goldberg and producing as well as supposedly playing Britt Reid. He also went to far away lands to grab the begging-to-be international star Stephen Chow to direct the flick and star as Kato.

No one gives a shit. There was, like, three people [who care about ‘Hornet’]. It [had to be] somewhat of [an origin story then]. We didn’t intend it to be one, but we realized that no one knows anything about the Green Hornet, and it actually became more confusing than anything that we didn’t include somewhat of an origin story. We realized through people being very confused with our screenplay that we should probably include somewhat of an origin in it.

The Doom Dispatch: Payne vs. Payne: Great Games, Terrible Movies
space
Dr. Royce Clemens   |

Doom Dispatch

Adapting video games into films should not be this hard. Books and plays are turned into good movies on a nearly monthly basis. Christ, even direction is a form of adaptation. The director has both the right and the necessity to cherry-pick and omit from a written screenplay. There is no such thing as “an original film.”

And yet, like trying to pole-vault without an actual pole, the evolutionary link between video game and film has yet to be cleared.

Now to be fair, I liked Silent Hill. It was an atmosphere engine which would have been a whole lot better if an actual script was used.

And as I may have unwisely mentioned in my review of Max Payne at filmarcade.net a week ago, I liked the Doom movie. Don’t blame me… The game came out when I was eight… We were on an anti-poverty board in Chicago together… The parties were hosted by the Annenbergs… SHUT UP!

But other than those, we have been treated to miserable failure after miserable failure. Super Mario Bros., both Tomb Raider films, anything with Uwe Boll’s name on it, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter. They all suck. Granted, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within came close to succeeding, but it failed to adhere to the spirit of the games. Namely, there were no she-dudes, giant chickens, or EEEEEEEENDLLEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS levelling-up.
