‘Kung Fu Panda’ Director To Helm ‘He-Man’ Movie?
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

He-ManNot too long after it was reported that the new live-action He-Man movie titled Grayskull had been been terminated, there comes some promising news. It appears that Kung Fu Panda co-director John Stevenson has been hired to captain the re-envisioning of the classic 80’s toy/cartoon.

It’s said that Stevenson went into the production studio’s offices, made himself a pitch, and wowed the people that matter, like Joel Silver. This netted him the job of directing what I’m assuming is still Grayskull, which was very highly spoken of and hailed as a Lord of the Rings-esque He-Man story.

Hopefully this is true. I wasn’t thrilled when I heard that they weren’t doing this anymore, so I’d very much love to know it was happening again. It’s tough to tell whether this is the right man for the job, but he’s done a bunch of art department workings on movies like Shrek 1&2, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth along with the previously mentioned co-direction of Kung Fu Panda, which many people including myself liked a lot.

Summit Greenlights ‘Twilight’ Sequel ‘New Moon’
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

Last week, Summit Entertainment announced that they had picked up the rights to the sequels of Twilight and had secured screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to script the second and third stories.

Today, Summit has announced that they’re officially greenlit production for New Moon, a big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer‘s second novel in the Twilight Saga.

Summit has hit it big with the Twilight franchise, the first movie of which opened up this weekend in theaters to sold-out showings, and has already grossed over $7 million for midnight showings on Thursday, with a total of $35.7 million so far — a great achievement, considering the film’s budget was $37 million.

Trailer For New Kristen Stewart Movie ‘Adventureland’
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

Aside from starring Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart in what I consider to be her “natural” state, I have tons of reasons why I already know I’ll love Adventureland.

First of all, it takes place in Long Island, NY (not far from my neck of the woods in Brooklyn) in the summer of 1987 — a great year, if I say so myself — at an amusement park (love it!). It’s about a recent college grad (Jesse Eisenberg who you might remember from Cursed — I do) who has to take a low-wage job at a local amusement park where he falls in love with his co-worker Em (Kristen Stewart) and ends up having the best time of his life.

The R-rated film is directed by Greg Mottola, who’s directorial debut was the raunchy teen comedy Superbad, which I thought was funny as hell. While Adventureland is also a comedy, it’s doesn’t seem to be the outlandish kind. The movie screams “indie darling” and even has that Garden State wallpaper. Just to hit the point home, the trailer plays “Blister in the Sun” by the Violent Femmes. But another super-bonus point for it is its use of Rush’s “Limelight” in the trailer and within the film itself (we see one of the characters air-drumming while trying to remember the lyrics).

Video: Kirk Hammett’s Birthday Concert + King Diamond Performs With Metallica
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

On November 18th, [my boyfriend] Kirk Hammett performed with Metallica in Tulsa, OK, on his 46th birthday. Some video was captured of the lead guitarist playing “Seek and Destroy” while the road crew ambushed him in celebration with silly-string.

Watch the video here below of the event and see how Kirk manages to continue playing the song — and doing the lead! — even though he and his guitar are covered with the sticky substance and he’s continuously getting strayed with the stuff. Now that’s talent.

Another video below is of Mercyful Fate frontman King Diamond performing with the “Mercyful Fate” medley with Metallica at the Ozzfest this summer.

One of the greatest pieces, if not the greatest piece, on Metallica’s 1998 double album of covers tunes, Garage Inc., was the track titled “Mercyful Fate.” The track was actually a medley of songs from Danish metal band: “Satan’s Fall,” “Curse of the Pharaoh,” “A Corpse Without Soul,” “Into the Coven,” and “Evil.”
